Hitting the alternative pop scene with an exciting new sound, newcomers a little place called Aspen is a Toronto-based band built on friendship, collaboration and a shared love for infectious songs. Formed in 2022, the five-piece collective brings together the diverse musical talents of Nick Babcock, Hunter Sheridan, Jordan Moore, Nolan Hubbard and Ty Callan where each member plays an integral role, contributing both instrumentally and vocally to shape an original musical output.
United by a vision to redefine the “boy band” concept, a little place called Aspen filters classic pop songwriting through their modern sonic lens. Brimming with warm harmonies, lively arrangements and a sense of storytelling that engages listeners, this group brings catchy hooks and musicianship panache to deliver a sound that’s sure to win over fans across Canada and beyond.
Making their official artistic entrance and sharing their sound with the world for the first time, they bring us their debut single titled “Back from the Dead.” Thematically, the song takes cues from Stephen King’s short story Home Delivery, setting itself apart from typical love songs or radio-friendly anthems by recounting the chilling tale of a young woman facing a zombie outbreak, only to witness her late husband return from the dead after dying in a fishing accident years earlier.
As an alien craft looms over Earth, the undead begin to rise, adding a sense of eerie suspense to the track’s hauntingly catchy chorus; “Reanimated, we’re coming back again.” Wrapped up in a lively indie pop arrangement, bouncy rhythms of snapping drums and grooving basslines propel a blend of bright synths, slick guitar and shimmering saxophone capped by rich vocal leads.
Opened by the swirl of airy textures, the strike of drums ushers in a colourful burst of pulsing rhythms and silky sax leads before settling down in a verse of instantly memorable vocal lines. Backed by layers of velvety voices, the chorus presents an intoxicating fusion of danceable energy and stunning vocal leads, resulting in a stunning listening experience that’s unique and energising in equal measure.
Cut with a dancing guitar solo, peppered with wailing flashes of sirens and carried by the steady shake of drums, “Back from the Dead” sees a little place called Aspen make a spectacular entrance with a sensational debut single. With more material set to drop each month for the foreseeable future, 2025 is shaping up to be a breakout year for this superb new band on the rise and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store next.
