Originally from Brazil and now calling Dublin home for the past decade, Nissu is a singer-songwriter whose music captures the emotional ups and downs of life. Since stepping into the music world in 2019 with his debut single “Forever Mine,” he’s been continually developing his artistic output, bringing together personal experiences with a sound that blends modern pop and nostalgic influences.
Following his debut, Nissu took his time to craft his next release, returning in 2021 with “U” before offering “Connection” last year, a track that reflected on the ways people remained emotionally close despite physical distance during the pandemic. Now, he presents his most ambitious project to date with Memories, a six-track debut EP that offers the perfect snapshot of his unique musical vision.
At the heart of Memories is an exploration of friendship, love and determination. Inspired by a broad spectrum of artists, with Katy Perry standing out as a key influence, Nissu draws from his own life experiences to create a body of work that’s at once personal and relatable. Through its themes, Memories invites listeners to reflect on their own journeys, tapping into shared emotions and collective experiences.
To bring the EP to life, Nissu linked up with Trey Vittetoe, the renowned producer known for his work with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Selena Gomez. With Trey’d slick production, Memories balances radio-ready hooks with meaningful sentiment, ensuring each track carries weight both sonically and emotionally, while adding to the creative process, Nissu collaborated with longtime friend and songwriter Ma Viana.
Opened by the warm piano tones, soft percussive shots and delicate instrumental textures of “U,” Nissu’s bright vocal leads enter as the bounce of the beat ushers in an upbeat pop scene. Full of catchy melodic hooks, uplifting vibes and uptempo energy, it’s a charming jam full of buoyant aesthetic. “Connection” follows with the filter of smooth tones before jumping into a grooving scene of pulsing bass lines and silky vocal leads, resulting in a delightful pop outing that’s infectious and poignant in equal measure.
On “Yourself,” Nissu links with UK-based rapper Paigey Cakey to deliver a stunning and empowering track brimming with delightful groove and vibrant instrumentation. With Nissu spinning stellar melodic leads, Paigey Cakey takes over for a verse of rhythmic rapped flow to deliver an incredible collaboration between these two talented artists.
Closing the EP with his debut single, he brings the release full circle with his dazzling ballad-style song of elegant melodic writing and a piano-driven arrangement that develops with the rattle of punching electronic beats, colourful synth textures and lofty lead guitar licks, crafting a spectacular finale to his sensational debut EP. Commenting on the EP, he shares, “I wanted Memories to feel like an open diary, a collection of moments that shaped me. Some songs were written years ago, others more recently, but they all tell a story that I hope resonates with people.”
