Tear the Abyss is the artistic banner of a Bulgarian musician whose journey with music began at seven years old, a spark that’s since developed into a deep and immersive creative pursuit. With a self-built home studio as their workshop and a growing ambition to craft music that goes far beyond what’s come before, Tear the Abyss is a storyteller shaping sound into something cinematic, emotional and purposefully layered.
Their name itself is drawn from the lore they’ve been carefully constructing behind the scenes; a context that each future release will build upon. The aim, as the artist puts it, is to offer “a puzzle piece in a larger narrative that will compel listeners.” This approach places Tear the Abyss in a unique position, not just as a musician but as a conceptual creator, offering an experience that invites curiosity, interpretation and emotional connection.
Having already caught attention with a first-place win in Musicautor’s new artist competition, Tear the Abyss now steps into a new phase with the release of their debut EP titled Forever. The three-track project marks not only the result of a year’s worth of focused writing and production, but also the beginning of a larger story-driven arc the artist plans to unfold with future releases, making this a chapter of a much bigger story.
Written and recorded entirely within the walls of a home studio, the EP reflects both technical craftsmanship and emotional impact. Stripped from a broader pool of 15 tracks created over the past year, the final three cuts were selected for their strength and cohesion, acting as a distilled version of Tear the Abyss’s highly unique sound. It’s a fusion of alternative rock and electronic music that’s dark in tone, vibrant in texture and bound together by a lyrical thread that speaks to transformation, loss and reflection.
The title track, “Forever,” both opens and anchors the EP with a sense of haunting atmosphere. It’s a slow-burning, emotionally charged piece that pairs jagged electronic edges with organic instrumentation as Tear the Abyss delivers vocals with an almost whispered intensity, blurring the line between vulnerability and strength. Swelling with commanding energy, the instrumentation surges with crunching guitars, impassioned vocals and the crisp rattle of punching beats as bright synth flickers add dashes of colour to the arrangement, resulting in a gripping synth rock outing that draws from dark wave stylings from the past while charging ahead into a thoroughly new sonic sphere.
“You Know” slips into a dreamy scene of drifting synth textures and emotive vocal lines, gradually building to a downtempo slice of anthemic alternative music. Switching with the strike of a steady drum beat half way, it’s an engrossing synth rock outing that’s memorable and meaningful from start to finish. “Are You Still Okay?” further showcases Tear the Abyss’ musical range with a delicate, piano-focused ballad that gently progresses with the twang of clean guitar tones and patter of drums. Launching with a burst of distorted guitars and swirling synth, the track rises with soaring vocals to offer a cathartic and truly absorbing listening experience.
Throughout Forever, the songwriting feels like a balancing act between light and shadow, with each track casting a different hue across the same emotional spectrum. Whether it’s the stark lyrical imagery, the genre-melding arrangements or the sense of something just beneath the surface, the EP arrives like a prologue, open-ended yet profoundly personal. With Forever, Tear the Abyss introduces their music and a new world. And as that world expands release by release, they’re sure to become a must watch artist in the modern music scene. “I’m so glad I finally have the opportunity to have my music heard. It’s been my dream since I was a kid,” they share.
