JAKE BACK is the kind of artist who lets his music speak louder than any biography ever could. Splitting his time between Los Angeles and New York, he’s an exciting producer in the electronic music scene, creating immersive sonic experiences that shine with emotion and deep texture. With a background in physics from the University of Rochester, his approach to music is at once technical and emotional, blending structured precision with human feeling.
His creative journey began in the quiet moments of experimentation, dabbling with sounds between studies, eventually resulting in the release of his debut single “Arcadoonie” at the end of 2022 which he’s since followed up with a string of well received tracks over the years. Now he brings us his latest release with his brand new two-track EP titled CASE / Its Just a Lonely Life.
Far more than just another project, this release captures a profoundly personal chapter in Jake’s life. Written in the wake of his father’s passing, the music is both a tribute and a vessel for grief; it’s an honest expression of what came next, a broken computer, a three-month creative pause and eventually, the formation of two tracks that reflect the weight and silence of loss.
Distilling themes of loneliness and grief, he presents a moving sound in these instrumental electronic pieces, conveying emotion even in the absence of lyrics. Opened with the first track titled “CASE,” the EP starts off with the contrast of hazy key tones and the airy twinkle of bright instrumental plucks. Flowing with the plod of warm bass notes and flutter of intricate synth flickers, he casts a dreamy slice of downtempo electronica that gently develops with the groove of staccato dashes and drifting textures.
Slipping the listeners into an enveloping musical world, the track gradually builds with the stretched shimmer of glistening tones and the rattle of of marching percussion, resulting in a spacey, dance-focused soundscape packed full of unexpected twists and turns. Peppered with elegant piano runs and the steady pulse of the beat, it’s a stunning showcase of his pure musical creativity and sound design panache.
The second half of the EP arrives with the misty pulse of synths on “Its Just a Lonely Life” before the light crunch of the beat brings the track into sharp focus. Gliding with subtly grooving rhythm and the intricate layers of blissful synth timbres, the piece delivers an absorbing sound that’s emotive and gently energising throughout.
Tinged with glitchy aesthetics and the soft echo of distant vocalisations, it’s an engaging and danceable jam that’s at once melancholic and uplifting, stitching the artist’s lived emotions into a transportive electronic scene. As he continues to deliver compelling and meaningful musical moments, JAKE BACK is an artist going from strength to strength and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store next.
