The All’s Eye Trio might be a relatively new name on the scene but its members are anything but newcomers. Based in New England, the project brings together the exceptional talents of guitarist and composer Ari Joshua, keyboardist Kris Yunker and drummer Ben Atkind. With a musical approach based in exploration and spontaneity, the trio brings their backgrounds in jazz, rock and jam music into a sound that feels both exciting and endlessly expansive.
Ben Atkind and Kris Yunker, both formerly of jam rock act GOOSE, bring serious pedigree to the lineup; Ben also performs with Elephant Proof, while Kris lends his skills to the nationally acclaimed Bearly Dead. Their impressive résumés are matched by a magnetic energy on stage, a quality that’s been earning them growing attention with each live performance.
The seeds of The All’s Eye were planted when Ari Joshua and Kris Yunker crossed paths at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. A few impromptu sessions revealed a rare chemistry and when a Colorado-based podcast nudged them toward deeper collaboration, they wasted no time. Bringing in Ben Atkind, a trusted musical partner from Yunker’s GOOSE days, the trio quickly locked into something special. What followed was a flurry of activity, a handful of live shows and an intense overnight recording session at a studio in Connecticut where they laid down fifteen tracks covering a broad stylistic territory, from funk and soulful organ grooves to psychedelic rock and intricate improvisations.
Their debut release last year on the Music Factory Record Label offered a first glimpse into their world, with the single “West Hill Road” showcasing their genre-breaking spirit. Now The All’s Eye Trio are back with Saturday Sessions Live, a two-track EP that captures the visceral, in-the-moment feel of their collaboration. Released for Emmy Award-winning Matt Rifino’s new series, the EP features bold live versions of Ari Joshua’s originals “Gramama” and “Say What You Wanna Say,” recorded in a single take with minimal overdubs.
“Gramama” serves as a soulful tribute to Ari Joshua’s late Granny Queenie, who once ghostwrote sermons for her husband. Set to a gospel-inspired, electric bluegrass train beat, the track channels ancestral love and determination, connecting past and present with heartfelt songwriting. Driven by the shuffle of drums, Ari’s fuzzy guitar work and bouncy key flickers, it’s a grooving jam capped by superb vocal performance to offer an upbeat and instantly catchy outing.
Meanwhile, “Say What You Wanna Say,” originally written for a boogaloo session with Skerik and Delvon Lamarr, gets a fiery reimagining. In the hands of The All’s Eye, the track morphs into a thrilling blend of edgy psych rock and jazz-fuelled improvisation, resulting in a sound that’s immersive and memorable in equal measure, brought to life by the trio’s incredible musicianship.
As the trio gears up for a string of East Coast performances this spring and a studio version of “Say What You Wanna Say” set for release next month, The All’s Eye are only just getting started. With a spirit of musical exploration and a shared chemistry that oozes from every note, they’re rapidly establishing themselves as a must-watch act in the modern jam and rock scenes.
