Perth-based singer-songwriter EDIE has made her presence known in the indie pop world by harnessing bold, uncompromising energy and wrapping it in tightly crafted songs full of fire, grit and a distinct kind of femininity. Since her debut in 2022 with “Blame Me,” EDIE has been making noise in all the right places, with her 2024 singles earning critical acclaim from outlets all attuned to the charisma and sharp perspective she brings to every release.
At the centre of EDIE’s sound is a magnetic spirit that runs through her songwriting and stage presence. Her recently released debut EP unsaid saw her fully crystallise her unique sonic vision, blending indie pop textures with lyrical impact, delivering music with purpose and a personality that’s struck a chord with listeners across Australia and beyond.
She kicked off 2025 with “Bleed,” a track that kept her momentum going and amplified it, securing support from Triple J, RAGE, Triple J Unearthed and another spotlight in Rolling Stone. That track also earned her a WAM nomination in the pop category, a nod to how her blend of vulnerability and ferocity is making an impression beyond just her fanbase.
Now, EDIE returns with her latest single titled “Girl’s Girl,” a track that sees her sharpening her pen in a new direction. Still packing that punch she’s become known for, the song turns its gaze inward, not at external misogyny this time, but the quieter, often more painful kind, the kind that comes from within the circle.
This is EDIE holding a mirror up to internalised misogyny and the damage done when women tear each other down instead of lifting one another up. Cut with bouncing electric basslines and crisp drum loops that frame her alluring vocals, “Girl’s Girl” sees EDIE serve up another slice of her grooving, instantly catchy indie pop sound.
Commenting on the single, she shares, “Girl’s Girl is about the girls who just don’t support other girls! The ones who say they are there for you but then stab you in the back. And the ones who say “I’m one of the boys” or “I don’t hang out with girls, they’re too much drama!” I am exhausted with it! Let’s all support each other and lift each other up!”
Opened by the buzz of instrumental texture, the arrangement jumps into focus with the snap of drums and pulse of bass as EDIE’s smooth voice enters to spin infectious hooks carrying poignant picture painting lyricism above. With intricate flickers of guitar, the chorus bursts with subtly anthemic energy to lay down a memorable sound that’s at once musically engaging and thematically empowering.
There’s power in how “Girl’s Girl” sits, it’s a song that can fill a room with energy, but also invites closer listening. Behind the slick production from Dylan Ollivierre is a message worth sitting with and EDIE delivers it with both disarming charm and shimmering pop flair. With “Girl’s Girl,” EDIE continues her streak of fiercely personal, socially aware pop without ever sounding preachy; it’s emotional, sharp and thoroughly enjoyable and she once again shows what it means to be a pop artist with purpose.
