Hi Renzo, how are you today?
I’m feeling grounded and inspired. Always grateful to be surrounded by sound and to keep shaping stories through music.
What first drew you into music production, and how did your journey into producing Electronic Music begin?
It started with curiosity – this need to translate feelings and memories into sound. I was surrounded by rhythms growing up, especially those tied to Peruvian culture. When I discovered Electronic Music, it felt like the perfect canvas to blend tradition with something more expansive and universal.
Your recent ‘Del Peru’ EP has a clear identity rooted in your heritage. How do you bring these cultural influences into your production process?‚
‘Del Peru’ is my way of reconnecting with my roots. My family comes from the jungle region of Peru, and that essence is always with me – in melodies, in textures, in energy. I work with rhythms and sounds that feel ancestral, almost like rituals. The Amazon inspires me: it’s chaotic and divine, full of rhythm and spirit. I try to channel that into every detail.
What does your current production setup look like? Are there any essential pieces of gear you rely on when creating your sound?
I work with the minimum. My laptop, a good pair of headphones, and monitors when I need to dive deep. I like simplicity. It helps me stay close to the soul of the sound.
When starting a new track, what’s your usual approach? Do you begin with rhythm, melody, or something else?
I usually start with an emotion. Then it can go in many directions – sometimes it’s a percussion loop or a field recording I’ve made, other times it begins with a melody or a voice. There’s no fixed order. I just follow where the feeling leads.
In your opinion, what is the most important element when building the foundation of a dancefloor-focused track?
The pulse – that living rhythm that moves both body and spirit. It doesn’t always have to be loud, but it has to be alive. When you get that right, the rest follows naturally.
What keeps you inspired and motivated to continue creating music, especially during longer projects like an EP?
Connection. The idea that someone out there – maybe far away – will feel seen or transported by a sound I made. And also, the process itself. It’s like meditation, a ritual. I learn something new about myself with every track.
How has your approach to producing music evolved since you first started, and what have you learned along the way that has shaped your creative process?
I’ve learned to trust silence. To not rush. At first, I wanted to fill every space – now I listen more. I’ve become more sensitive to textures and space, and more focused on intention. Less noise, more meaning.
Finally, what’s one thing you hope listeners feel or take away when listening to your music?
A sense of journey – inward or outward. That feeling of remembering something ancient, even if they’ve never heard it before. If my music can connect them to themselves or something greater, even for a moment, then I’ve done my part.
Renzo Zong’s approach to music is a reminder of how sound can carry both intention and feeling. Whether behind the decks or working in the studio, he focuses on delivering engaging sonic experiences that reflect his journey and background. As he continues to share new projects, Renzo’s dedication to authenticity and depth remains central to his work, making him an artist worth keeping an eye on within today’s Electronic Music landscape.
