London-based singer-songwriter Adam Wedd has spent the past few years staking his claim as one of the most compelling voices in the UK’s indie pop sphere. Drawing in audiences with his emotionally impactful songwriting and engaging stage presence, he’s earned airplay across more than 500 radio stations worldwide, including major names like BBC, Z100, Sirius FM and Absolute Radio. From intimate stages at St Pancras Old Church to crowds in New York’s Rockwood Music Hall, Adam’s heartfelt performances have built him a loyal following on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since first unveiling his studio sound with the 2018 debut EP People Places and Things, he’s kept up a steady output of singles, remixes and EPs, each revealing more of his musical versatility. His music balances soulful sensitivity with catchy melodies, delivering an honest and immersive experience that strikes a chord with listeners everywhere. From recording in the studio to working behind the bar at Abbey Road Studios, Adam brings a unique perspective to his musical vision, bridging industry experience with independent artistic expression.
This year he’s kept up his creative momentum with a string of well-received singles in the build up to his latest release, his new seven-track EP titled Merchant Man. Inspired by a broad scope of influences from Post Malone to Leonard Cohen, the project moves fluidly across genres and moods, united by Adam’s storytelling panache and performance flair, supported by visually arresting music videos that bring the tracks into sharp cinematic focus.
Opened by the apex version of previously released single “Pedal to the Metal,” the roll of drums brings in an instant indie rock groove as Adam’s smooth vocal leads glide over an energising arrangement of crunchy guitars and airy backing vocalisations. Flowing through moments of delicate acoustic aesthetic and bursts of infectious pop rock, it’s a stellar showcase of songwriting talent and wide appeal, cut with slick lead guitar flourishes and all tied together by his incredible voice.
“Take Me Home (the temptation of nothingness)” follows with soft guitar plucks and a gently shuffling beat as Adam’s rich voice enters to craft a charming country-tinged indie pop outing brimming with memorable melodic hooks and steady rhythmic march. “SHAPED BY THE STARS” serves up a delightful jam of intricate instrumentation and soulful vocal performance, forming a playful sound that surges with passages of twanging electric guitar and lofty vocals.
With songs like “Madman,” featuring Blacksmith, Adam puts his musical dexterity on full display, leaning into an R&B-inflected alternative pop anthem. Above rattling percussion and hazy synth-based arrangement, his voice soars in a subtly processed vibe while Blacksmith injects hip hop energy with a razor-sharp rapped verse.
“Duvet Days” brings the EP back to Adam’s timeless sound with a gritty rock outing of fuzzy guitar tones, laid back rhythms and impassioned vocal work carrying poignant lyricism. Closing the record with “BEGIN AGAIN,” graceful acoustic guitar notes underpin his aching voice as he casts a folk style finale that frames his thoughtful songwriting in a stripped-back, vintage setting. With a debut full-length album scheduled for release in September next year and more live shows on the horizon, Adam Wedd is opening an exciting new chapter in his musical story and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store.
