Based in Lugano, Switzerland, Giorgio Fazio has long been a creative figure working behind the curtain of the music world, known to many as a Creative Director with an impressive portfolio of sonic identities crafted for brands and commercial projects, his skill has always been pairing story with sound. For years, he’s been the creator of atmospheres, shaping how audiences engage with campaigns and visuals through intricately tuned audio. But now, Giorgio is channeling his talents into his own solo project and exploring a musical vision entirely on his own terms.
His sound blends spliced rhythms, cinematic tension and an affinity for the more abstract corners of electronic music. Drawing from deconstructed club, ambient electronica, footwork and the darker fringes of the UK scene, he builds tracks that take listeners deep into his sonic universe.
In February, he offered a first glimpse of that world with his debut single “No One Should Ever Die,” where chopped vocal textures with impactful low-end instantly established him as an artist with an innovative sound. Quickly following it with more singles and an inventive rework of Hudson Mohawke’s “FUSE,” he’s been going from strength to strength with each move on his breakout year.
Now, he presents his most ambitious project to date with the release of Nothing but Simulation, a two-track EP that interrogates the blurred lines between digital illusion and reality. Inspired by the simulation hypothesis, the record takes a philosophical lens to electronic music, asking what it means to create a simulation inside another one if our very existence is already a digital construct.
The title track “Nothing but Simulation” is gripping and unstable, built around glitching rhythms and an ever-shifting sense of unease, a sonic environment in constant flux. Premiered on footwork legend Foodman’s monthly show on NTS Radio, the track flows with stuttered rhythmic energy as deep bass textures and chopped vocal sample shots add dashes of melodic flickers throughout. It’s a spectacular showcase of Giorgio Fazio’s experimental electronic sound and sound design flair, serving up a truly engrossing listening experience from start to finish.
Its counterpart, “But Something Feels Real,” contrasts that chaos with suspended atmospheres and an unresolved stillness, moving like a program that never quite finishes loading. With airy synth textures, bright tones and subtly upbeat construction, the track builds from a sparse atmosphere and dreamy aesthetic into a pulsing outing driven by the soft rattle of footwork rhythms to craft a delicate outing that perfectly contrasts the opening track.
Together, the two tracks form a dialogue of collapse and suspension, tension and release, embodying the question at the centre of the project. Extending the concept into the digital sphere, Giorgio has launched nothingbutsimulation.com, a generative online experience that acts as a simulation within the simulation. Developed through vibe coding with Google Gemini and MidJourney, the site features hundreds of simulated video portraits of the artist himself, each visit triggering a new, randomised audiovisual sequence, resulting in an endlessly shifting environment where music and visuals intertwine, ensuring no two encounters are the same.
Commenting on the release, he shares, “My fascination with the simulation hypothesis comes from years of observing how the idea has evolved from ancient philosophy to science. For millennia we searched for meaning in the natural world or the divine. Now we are beginning to accept that we might be part of a programmed reality. With this project I wanted to create a work that revolves entirely around the concept of simulation. I find this deeply fascinating, and I want people to live it as an artistic experience that makes them think about what it means to exist in a simulated life.”
