Hailing from Tipperary in Ireland, James Darcy has arrived as a singer-songwriter who folds indie, folk, alternative rock and pop into a style that feels at once intimate and meaningful. With a focus on crafting songs that dig beneath the surface, he takes through emotive storytelling, reflecting an instinctive understanding that music can offer perspective, comfort and connection.
Inspired by artists such as Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, Damien Rice and Noah Gundersen, he leans into a tradition of writing that puts poignant context at its centre with honest lyricism rippling through his own work. After stepping away from the music world for a time, his return this year opens an exciting new chapter in his creative story. It’s a comeback framed by forward momentum as he reintroduces himself as a solo artist with his own vision.
This new path allows him to dig deeper into personal themes, offering listeners something even more intimate than before. His debut solo single titled “The Middle” is the perfect entry point into this fresh era, offering a song built on heartfelt lyricism and delicate melodies, the track distils his ability to bring together emotional impact with sonic accessibility.

Opened by the soft sweep of atmospheric textures, airy guitar tones and warm piano notes drift through the hazy soundscape as James’ emotive voice enters to spin elegant melodies carrying tender lyrics. As his vocals take flight, the shimmer of cymbal ushers in a laid back beat to add a lilting rhythmic sway, taking the song into a dazzling folk pop scene.
Capped by spectacular vocal performance that hovers above the graceful instrumentation, quiet touches of synths and layers of of intricate tones form a truly engrossing sound. With the crisp snap of rattling percussion adding a mellow energy, James’ stunning vocal layers cast a dreamy and utterly alluring sound from start to finish. Building to an epic crescendo of incredible vocal leads and transportive arrangement, the finale floats back down to an intimate piano-focused sound to leave a lasting impression of the song.
Memorable, meaningful and subtly anthemic, “The Middle” sees James Darcy mark his return to the music scene in sensational fashion. It’s a charming slice of the artist’s forward-thinking folk sound, presenting a musical experience that’s highly absorbing and impossible not to love. With new material on the horizon and live shows planned for next year, James Darcy is sure to go from strength to strength on his compelling musical adventure.

What’s your earliest memory of making music?
14 years old on a notepad in my bedroom with a cheap classical guitar with 3 strings.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from?
I’m inspired by a lot of artists, spanning many different genres but if I HAD TO name a couple… my countryman, Damien Rice and Jason Isbell. Great storytellers.

How else do you find inspiration for your music?
Digging in. Just picking up the instrument and grinding it out. I also mess around with different guitar tunings. You can get some lovely voicings out of the instrument that way that leads you down paths you might not have gone down before.
What’s been your highlight for the year so far?
I’ve been away from music for 7 years so releasing my debut SOLO single was a big win for me.
What do you love about the Irish music scene?
Everybody knows everybody. It’s a fairly close knit community. We try to help each other out.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
Hans Zimmer
How did you find making your debut single “The Middle”?
As I mentioned already, I’ve been away for a long time so It was a good exercise in brushing the cobwebs off and getting back on the horse. It all came together pretty quickly. It’s a piece of work I’m proud of and honestly, I’m proud of myself for getting all the doubts out of my head and picking up the guitar again to write it.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
Mireve, President, The Vanns, Amble & Sefarers

What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
All I want is for the listener to take something away from it. I want them to feel something, whatever that feeling may be.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Never, ever give up and write songs that you would listen to if they weren’t yours because if you don’t like them, how is anybody else going to?
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of the year?
I plan to release at least one more single before the year is out and try to get as many gigs as I can in the diary for 2026
