Cassie Holt is an artist who has learned to turn pain into power; a survivor, therapist and fierce creative figure, the Texas-born soul pop and R&B singer has built a career that tackles life’s hardest moments head on. Her music is crafted for connection, healing and the courage to be seen, taking cues from soul icons like Aretha Franklin, Etta James and Jill Scott, as well as the works of Ani DiFranco and Mazzy Star.
From her earliest performances to her work as a therapist and activist, Cassie has always sought to give voice to the silenced. She’s faced multiple forms of assault and found strength in transmuting those experiences into sound, resulting in a musical output that’s meaningful and profoundly human. As a female producer with a deep understanding of mental health, she’s been on a mission to make music that uplifts and empowers.
Her career has been marked by powerful milestones from working with Grammy-winning producer S1 on her breakout track “Leavin You” to playing alongside Fantastic Negrito at the House of Blues. She’s collaborated with some of the most respected names in soul and R&B, including J Rhodes, Ty Macklin and Madukwu Chinwah, earning a reputation as one of Texas’s most exciting musical voices on the rise.
Now her latest release, the brand new EP titled The Family Album, sees her artistic vision reach its fullest expression. The Family Album is a seven-track outing that serves as a love letter to someone close to her heart, written in the wake of personal loss and transformation. Thematically, the project is a tribute to her late father, tracing her journey through grief, motherhood and rediscovery.
Penned between hospital rooms and long nights of reflection, it’s an intimate work of art filled with the type of emotional gravity that shines in timeless soul music. Cassie’s fearlessness shines brightest on opening track “Sassy Little Bitch,” a fierce queer anthem inspired by her brother’s story while for her sister, she offers “You and Me Against Everybody,” a bold pop anthem that burns with loyalty and defiance brimming with stunning vocal performance and heartfelt writing.
“Mama” frames Cassie’s engaging songwriting in a smokey setting of downtempo percussion and expressive vocals before “Spend My Life With You” sees Cassie link up with Sharlotte Gibson, known for her work with Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah, tying the project together with a soulful country ballad. “Going Home” presents a tender ballad dedicated to her father, capturing the bittersweet ache of farewell, her voice carrying both fragility and faith.
“People I Love” flows with Cassie’s soulful voice and mellow groove, forming a compelling Texas soul outing written during her own hospitalisation and completed with local Dallas musicians. Closing the EP with “Little Baby,” a lullaby to her daughter filled with warmth and tenderness presenting a delicate finale that glides with intricate instrumental touches and elegant vocals. With The Family Album, Cassie Holt turns survival into song and sorrow into strength, offering a dazzling display of timeless songwriting and incredible performance panache.
