Blending her Cuban and Italian origins into her sound, Massachusetts-born singer-songwriter and pianist Izzy Escobar has been going from strength to strength on her breakout year. Baring her soul at the piano and letting the world listen in, she’s known for her creative songwriting and magnetic presence, offering songs that flicker between poignant emotion and strength, pairing profoudnly personal lyricism with powerful vocals.
Trained in classical violin and driven by a lifelong passion for piano, her Cuban-Italian heritage informs both her artistic vision and her energy; an intoxicating fusion of grit, grace and soul that shines through every performance. Improvising a new piece in real time to stepping onto a stage, Izzy channels pure emotion into music that feels at once timeless and original, resulting in an output that’s drawn millions to her online performances, where musical moments have transformed into global viral hits.
In March, she made her official artistic entrance with the debut single “These Eyes” and has been quick to make a significant impact in the music scene. Poduced by Grammy-nominated hitmaker Gregg Wattenberg, the song first captured attention as a spontaneous TikTok moment before developing into a cinematic visual filmed across New York City. Soon, she was performing at iconic venues like Pappy & Harriet’s while transforming the courage it takes to find your voice into anthems that inspire others to do the same.
Her breakout viral single “Vendetta” confirmed her status on the international stage, clocking over a million spins and topping Spotify’s Top 50 Viral charts across 16 countries including the UK, Germany, and New Zealand. Following her acclaimed live set at Oceans Calling Festival, Izzy now brings us her brand new debut EP titled Sunny in London. The project traces a powerful emotional arc from heartbreak to healing, penned between New York and London.
Opened by her hit single “Vendetta,” Izzy’s soulful vocals glide in above warm piano chords and softly tapped percussion as she spins alluring melodies carrying picture painting lyricism. Surging with hurried rhythm and building instrumentation, the shuffle of drums and swooping backing vocalisations underpin her spectacular vocal performance to deliver a stunning showcase of her gripping alternative pop sound. “It’s the most real thing I’ve ever written. In telling that story, I found strength… she may have my eyes, my hair, even my zip code, but she’ll never be me,” she shares.
“White Horse” follows with dreamy guitar strums and airy textures before rising with Izzy’s expressive voice as the arrangement jumps with bouncy rhythms and rock-tinged vibes. The title track “Sunny in London” arrives with delicate orchestral tones and rolling percussion, casting a moment of elegant bliss before the crisp snap of drums ushers in a smooth indie R&B jam brimming with charming songwriting and infectious groove.
“Nevermine” slows things down with a blues-inflected outing that flows with gentle rhythmic sway and graceful vocals while “Three More Glasses” brings uptempo pop energy capped by instantly catchy melodic writing dashed with subtle disco aesthetic. Closing the EP with “Jackie O,” Izzy concludes the release with a dazzling finale packed full of spectacular vocal work and steady rhythm march. With over a million monthly listeners and deserved comparisons to Adele and Lily Allen, Izzy Escobar is a rising star with a knack for translating the messiness of love into anthems of self-worth and renewal.
Commenting on the release, she shares, “When I began writing this EP, I was in a completely different place. I had just moved to a new city for love… and quickly lost it. I remember sitting alone thinking, ‘What have I done? How am I going to get through this? What does this all mean?’ The only answer that ever felt true was to sit down at my piano, paper and pen in hand, and sing every ounce of pain out of me. This project is deeply personal because what you hear is exactly what I lived.”
Izzy Escobar is set to bring her new EP alive on stage at a live show on Friday the 7th of November at The Courtyard Theatre in London.
