Foxbridge are a UK-based acoustic Americana folk pop duo whose music is delicately pieced together with honest songwriting, intricate harmonies and storytelling lyricism. Formed in 2022 by singer-songwriters Emily Ellicott and Justin Capps, the project builds on a partnership that began several years earlier, when the pair fronted the act that earned Portsmouth’s Original Artist of the Year title in 2019. Together they offer a sound that carries the timeless sound of Americana, the intimacy of folk and the appeal of pop, resulting in songs that charm listening around the world.
Justin’s American origins blend naturally with Emily’s English stylings, forming a musical conversation between transatlantic influences, where folk pop storytelling is framed with rootsy aesthetic. Their performances invite audiences into to join this dialogue and venture through worlds populated by vivid characters and tender reflections. Their sound has already captured the attention of BBC and local radio, while live promoters have been quick to embrace the duo’s spellbinding live presence. With Foxbridge, the stage becomes a space of shared possibility, where listeners are drawn into stories that speak to the often unspoken facets of life.
Having introduced themselves under the Foxbridge name in 2023 with a series of live recordings, the duo followed up with a trio of studio releases last year. Their growing reputation was amplified when Fatea’s Showcase Session Spring 2024 spotlighted them among “the best rising names across the acoustic spectrum,” a recognition that confirmed their status as an act to watch in the developing sphere of modern folk pop music.
Now, Foxbridge take another exciting step forward with the release of their brand new EP titled Uncrossing The Stars, a five-track outing that marks their most ambitious release to date. It’s a release that expands beyond the energy of their live sessions, showcasing elegant studio arrangements and the stunning interplay between their vocals. With this EP, they further explore life’s shadows and contradictions, offering a moving dissection of desire, hope, fear and determination.
Opened by lead single “X Marks The Spot,” the EP starts with a super display of the duo’s storytelling, confronting difficult truths around victimhood, justice and revenge with thoughtful lyrical writing. Set up by the flutter of bluesy harmonica, the strum of guitar ushers in Emily’s expressive vocals as she spins flickering melodies while the arrangement builds with shuffling drums, plucked banjo notes, pulsing bass lines and piano slides, forming a grooving, rock-tinged folk anthem packed full of commanding vocals and catchy songwriting.
“Firelight” starts with the bounce of gentle piano notes as graceful vocals drift in alongside airy instrumental textures, casting a dreamy soundscape of hazy atmosphere. With Emily and Justin engaging in a balletic vocal duet, the track rises with punching percussion and the distant echo of lead guitar tones to deliver an utterly engrossing listening experience. “Sirens Used to Sing,” the soft chant of Emily’s choral vocalisations are met by Justin’s soulful voice as the arrangement gradually swells, presenting a truly absorbing slice of cinematic folk music.
With “Die On The Vine,” the stripped back intro of acoustic guitar plucks and Justin’s compelling vocals develops with a swaying groove of drums and warm instrumentation as Emily’s dazzling voice takes flight to deliver a magical musical moment that perfectly captures their enduring songwriting and forward-facing sound. Closing the EP with “Rainbow At The Gallows,” their emotive writing shines, finding unexpected light within dark places. As their moving vocals float above emphatic piano backing, the track surges into a powerful conclusion that distils Foxbridge’s gift for balancing deeply meaningful songwriting with rousing instrumentation, offering a spectacular finale to their sensational EP.
Commenting on the release, they share, “We wanted to dig into life’s rawest moments. These songs capture a full spectrum of human emotion and experience. Recording them, we wanted people to feel transported right into the heart of each story, from the quiet moments that shape everything, to the truly powerful ones.”
