Coming out of India’s flourishing indie pop scene, Tanisha Sharma has been earning a reputations as one of its most promising new voices. Born in Uttar Pradesh and now based in Bengaluru, her story is one of artistic curiosity, self-discipline and creative determination. Informed by constant travel as part of an Air Force family and early exposure to English-language music, Tanisha began writing songs at seven years old, with that creative outlet soon becoming a lifelong pursuit, shaped through years of performance and self-taught production.
Her musical path brings together both structure and spontaneity; after studying music in Ahmedabad and gaining extensive live experience, Tanisha balanced her artistic ambitions alongside a corporate career, a contrast that has influence her worldview and songwriting. In 2024, she made the move to Mumbai to focus entirely on her musical dreams, exploring the technical side of production and mastering tools like Logic Pro, Cubase and Ableton Live to help bring to life her own sonic vision.
Making her entrance in 2022 with the debut single “Ecstasy,” she’s since shared multiple well-received releases that have won over fans across India and beyond. Now, with the release of her debut EP titled The Stars Await, she offers her most complete vision yet via a three-track outing that reflects the many shades of her creative journey.
Written, composed, produced and sung entirely by Tanisha herself, The Stars Await opens a window into a different chapter of her story. Opening track “Goodbye” captures the delicate vulnerability of young love and the uncertainty that exists after it fades. With the soft snap of drums, bounce of bass and bright plucks of guitar, her elegant vocals glide above to thread smooth melodies on this delightful R&B-tinged jam.
“Fly” radiates optimism and courage, a reflection of the strength she found while tackling the corporate grind wrapped up in a grooving indie pop track brimming with catchy melodic writing and empowering lyricism. Closing the EP with “How Does He Do It,” the final song offers an intimate, heartfelt note, celebrating love and the growth that comes with it.
Set up by the gentle bubble of synths and airy stretched textures, the pulse of bass and twang of guitar is met by the shuffling rattle of percussion as Tanisha compelling vocals float in to cast a dreamy electronic pop scene that rolls with laid back energy and alluring melodic songwriting. Though distinct in tone, the tracks share a through-line of reflection, optimism and emotive context, presented in an engaging indie pop sound that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
The Stars Await sees Tanisha Sharma serve up a superb debut EP as well as hinting at an exciting new chapter in her enduring musical story. Standing as part of a new wave of Indian artists who are making a significant impression on the international indie pop sphere, Tanisha Sharma is a captivating figure who’s sure to shine for years to come.
