Hailing from the city of Rouen in France, Murder Sermon is an aptly named five-piece band that first exploded onto the scene in June 2019 with their debut EP, World of Illusion, a six-track outing that firmly planted themselves on the map of the French alternative music scene. Serving up a potent metal sound, the band’s creative process often starts with guitarist JĂ©rĂ©mie’s ideas, before the rest of the group adds their own sonic flair to the structure.
Returning in 2023 with their sophomore EP, The dark side of prohibition, the band has most recently been working on their highly anticipated upcoming debut full-length record. Now they share the first taste of what’s to come by unleashing their brand new single titled “Through the Eyes of the Mirror,” a thrilling heavy metal rollercoaster ride packed full of charging riffs, storming drums and aggressive vocal performance, al colliding to deliver a spectacular burst of visceral music.
Recorded at the Avatar Productions studio near Rouen, the track went through various mixes and iterations before settling on its final form, captured in a setting that allowed for a lower production pace and more room for contemplation. This additional breathing space has resulted in an astonishing powerful slice of exhilarating metal that’s sure to win over heavy music fans across France and beyond.

Unveiling the latest chapter of their sound, “Through the Eyes of the Mirror” sees Murder Sermon serve up five minutes of blistering guitar-driven music that’s utterly invigorating from start to finish. Brought in by the eerie notes of clean guitar plucks as the crackle of static and spooky vocalisations set a haunting atmosphere, the roll of striking drums kicks off an eruption of thumping half-time rhythm and crunching guitar chords capped by intense vocal screams.
Launching with impactful energy, the drums gather galloping pace to inject gripping energy as the track shakes with pure metal fervour. Flowing with multiple rhythmic switch ups, raucous riffs and shifting vocal delivery, “Murder Sermon” delivers an incredible metal voyage that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go throughout. With nail-gun double pedal work underpinning gutteral vocals and intricate lead guitar work, it’s a spectacular showcase of the band’s creativity and musicianship talent.
Paired with the single is an enthralling music video produced by Avatarproduction which captures the band in a dark setting to perfectly reflect the music. With their long-awaited debut album on the horizon, Murder Sermon as set to continue their rise as an unstoppable act in the world of modern metal. As they forgo playing live shows to focus on their forthcoming release, we can’t wait to see what this immense musical force has in store for the rest of 2025 and beyond.
We caught up with Murder Sermon to find out more about their musical journey so far, their new single “Through the Eyes of the Mirror” and what they’ve got lined up for the future. Check out our interview with Murder Sermon below.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from?
Our influences come from the most old school death metal to the new tunes! Each of us brings different flavors to the table, that contrast creates a really raw and unique dynamic.
How did you get together as a band?
Some of us crossed paths in the Rouen scene, playing in different bands or going to the same shows. What really brought us together was that mix of shared passion and our individual differencesâeach of us comes from a slightly different corner of the metal world, and that contrast shaped the sound of Murder Sermon from day one.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
A lot of it comes from life itselfâinner struggles, the chaos around us, and the darker aspects of the human condition.
Whatâs been your highlight for the year so far?
Definitely releasing our single “Through the Eyes of the Mirror.” It feels like a new era for the band. Weâve pushed our limits with this trackâtechnically, emotionally, and creatively.
What do you love about the French music scene?
Thereâs so much talent in Franceâespecially in the metal scene. We love how supportive the community is and how it continues to evolve without losing its edge.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
Somewhere dark, loud, and intense. Our music is meant to hit hardâphysically and emotionally.
How has your own style and sound evolved since you started out?
In the beginning, we leaned heavily into straightforward metal hardcore. But as we grew, we started weaving in breakdowns, faster riffing, more atmospheric sections, and even some melodic undertones. Now itâs this aggressive fusion that feels much more âus.â Weâve found our identity.
Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?
Probably Will Ramos (Lorna Shore) would be absolutely brutal.

How did you find making your new single âThrough the Eyes of the Mirrorâ?
It was intense. This track really pushed us creatively. We experimented more with structure, layering, and tempo shifts. We wanted it to be more than just heavy.
What message did you want to get across with this release?
The idea of reflectionâfacing the parts of yourself that are hardest to look at. Thereâs pain in that, but also power.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
Lately, weâve been spinning Lorna Shore, Fit For An Autopsy, and Shadow Of Intent.
Whatâs the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
That itâs okay to feel anger, fear, confusion. We channel those emotions into something powerful and unrelenting.
Whatâs been your favourite live performance so far?
One of our best shows was a night in Rouen where everything just clickedâthe crowd, the sound, the energy.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival?
Dream lineup? Whitechapel, Paleface, and Signs Of The Swarm!
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Stay authentic. Donât chase trends. Play what you feel, not what you think others want to hear.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of the year?
Weâve got work on our full-length album. Until then, weâll be teasing new tracks, and preparing to hit even harder in the months to come. Stay tuned.
