South African-Canadian artist Jessica Chaz has spent her career creating a sound that flows across continents, cultures and genres. Now based in Vancouver, Jessica grew up in Durban, South Africa, where her passion for music first took shape and while studying music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, she formed her first band, Seasons. The group quickly became a local sensation, performing across South Africa at celebrated venues such as the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music and The Ballito Prawn and Jazz Festival. Their biggest moment came in 2010 when they performed during the FIFA World Cup, marking a milestone in Jessica’s early career.
After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Music in 2011, she relocated to Canada, where her artistic journey continued to rise. Her soulful voice and her commanding stage presence soon earned her recognition as an artist to watch at Vancouver’s 2014 MIX Showcase. In the years since, she’s performed at major events like the Canadian Music Week Festival in Toronto and made an impression within the international pop and soul landscape.
Her debut EP Dreamin’ arrived in 2018, offering a heartfelt introduction that climbed to #23 on South Africa’s iTunes Pop Albums Chart and #53 in Canada. The accompanying music video drew tens of thousands of views, while her artistic reach continued to expand with her single “Yes to You,” which found placement in the long-running South African TV show Isidingo. She also co-founded indie label Moodlab Music to uplift underrepresented artists, demonstrating her mission for fostering community as much as her own artistic expression.
Her releases like her Promise of Sunlight Remixes EP, brought together producers and musicians from Brazil, South Africa, the USA and Canada and that spirit of cross-cultural dialogue continues in her most recent work titled Your Love Remixes, a colourful reimagining of her heartfelt single “Your love is all I’m after,” co-written with her sister Vanessa Mood.
The new five-track outing transforms the intimate emotion of the original into an exhilarating global dance experience. Working alongside Grammy-nominated producer Imani Pressley, DJW, Steve Kroeger and Tristan Paxton, Jessica has built a release that moves between pop, soul and electronic textures. From the laid back groove of Imani Pressley’s version to the uptempo dance pop vibes of the DW Deephouse Remix, the project’s collaborators furnish each remix with their distinct musical styles, from club-focused beats to ethereal synth layers while maintaining the emotional context of the song.
Engineered and mastered by an accomplished team including Kaj Falch-Nielsen, Sam Wheat and Grammy-winner Jonas W. Karlsson, the EP shines with sonic energy and emotional impact. Ultimately, Your Love Remixes is a celebration of love’s universality; whether experienced as a dance floor anthem or a quiet reflection, it captures the many ways affection connects us all. It’s a superb remix EP that reframes Jessica Chaz’s beloved single in different ways, offering new interpretations that showcase the range of her musical vision.
