Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, Olivia Dolphin is crafting her own sonic spell that’s conjured through honesty, emotion and a cinematic sense of wonder. The self-described witch pop artist has built her name on music that creates an exchange of energy through songs that embrace imperfection, heartbreak and identity, turning personal experience into something that’s widely relatable.
A classically trained musician with a knack for storytelling, Olivia brings together indie pop appeal and alternative rock energy, stacking emotional context with compositional elegance to craft an enchanting musical output. First making her official artistic entrance in 2020, she unveiled her fiercely original sound with the debut single “This Darn Christmas,” which she followed up with a string of well-received tracks in the build up to her first record, Lion-Hearted Blood, which landed in 2022.
Following a brief hiatus from sharing her sound, in 2024 she returned with new material, with her album Better, being released to critical acclaim. Now she brings us her latest release with her brand new EP titled All The Time We Spent, a five-track outing that takes her sound somewhere warmer, more intimate and yet more expansive than ever.
Thematically, All The Time We Spent is all about reflection, framing a quieter confrontation with the moments that persist after the chaos fades. The project takes inspiration from artists like Lucy Dacus, Brandi Carlile, Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, Ingrid Michaelson and Laura Stevenson, blending symphonic rock textures with poignant lyrical writing.
“Cross” opened the record with one of her most dazzling vocal performances to date, dancing above a graceful piano-led arrangement where the soft pulse of bass notes maintains a steady rhythmic anchor before the song launches with the rustle of drums and stunning string textures. With her voice stretching to its highest belt in a moment of cathartic release, the song swells with theatrical energy to craft a spectacular showcase of her timeless songwriting and performance panache.
With “Do You See It Too,” she twists the idea of the love song, revealing itself as an ode to friendship and those who bear witness to our obsessions and heartbreaks. With delicate piano backing, her fluttering vocal lines flicker above to form an intricate piece that flows with bright melodies and heartfelt lyricism wrapped up in a stripped back arrangement.
Previously released single “I… I…” glides with soft piano notes and tender vocals carrying picture painting lyrics that distil the idea of self-doubt into an intimate folk-inflected pop experience. “Lost” was penned in the aftermath of grief, landing as an unguarded meditation on how love and loss are intertwined where the gentle shuffle of drums and gentle plucks of guitar underpin her soulful vocal work.
Closing the EP with “Storm Warning,” she revisits the reflection that ran throughout her songwriting on Better, casting an anthemic finale that rolls with rock energy, bouncy rhythms and dramatic vocals spinning infectious melodic lines. Commenting on the release, she shares, “This EP may be shorter, but it’s packed with moments—musically, lyrically, emotionally. I think it’s going to propel us into a really exciting year of shows.”
