Landing on the UK’s alternative pop scene this year, Kaia Fincher is fast becoming a voice for self-expression and emotional honesty in its most cinematic form. As an artist, she moves between pop, electronic and alternative textures, crafting music that’s equally engaging and thematically profound, a formula that’s firmly planted her on the map of must watch new artists on the rise. Her songs hum with textured synths, grooving basslines and a smokey atmosphere that wraps around her voice as she spins memorable melodies carrying poignant lyricism.
Kaia’s music exists in that shimmering space between softness and strength and through her art, she embraces the full spectrum of identity; celebrating queerness, femininity and the fluid beauty of masculinity, transforming those experiences into sonic reflections of freedom and self-love. Her sonic vision captures the tension and tenderness of self-discovery, extending an invitation to listeners to join her in a world where emotion and strength collide.
Through her music, she leaps straight into those emotional contexts of love, self-talk and mental health to uncover the ways these forces shape us and the courage it takes to truly accept ourselves. Her message is one of radical visibility, offering a reminder to anyone who’s ever felt the need to shrink that they are seen, they are whole and they are worthy exactly as they are. In September, she unveiled her fiercely original output with her debut single “something new,” followed up by a remixed version of the track which reimagined the reflecting outing in a more dance-focused setting.
Now she brings us her brand new third release with the single titled “slowburn (christmas song),” a festive track that filters an alternative holiday outlook through a warm lens of elegant vocals and intricate instrumentation. Showcasing a completely new side to her sound, the single delivers a delicate, unconventional holiday track that eschews the sugarcoated nostalgia typical of the season. Instead, it speaks to those whose stories don’t always fit into the traditional Christmas picture where for some, the return home for the holidays carries the love that can’t yet be named or the truth that doesn’t fit the family script.
With “slowburn (christmas song),” Kaia creates a space for those moments, captured in a jazz-inflected, pop-tinged soundscape that’s blissfully melodic and achingly emotive. Blending tender piano lines, upright bass, soft percussion and airy vocal delivery, the track forms a fragile and truly heartfelt listening experience that glows with silky melodic flickers and the twinkle of chiming notes. Carried by a gentle groove from warm bass plucks and the brush of drums, Kaia’s alluring voice floats above to cast a spellbinding slice of dazzling music.
Reaching a playful finale capped by the flutter of Kaia’s expressive vocalisations, the track abruptly closes to leave a lasting memory of the song and subtly mirror the unresolved feelings people so often feel during the holiday season. It’s a charming new single from an incredible new artist on the rise, cut with the cloth of deep meaning and thoughtful songwriting, putting Kaia Fincher’s musical range and creativity on full display.
“We’re ending 2025, and somehow, many countries are passing laws that target LGBTQ+ people. I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to come home. Not every queer person gets to show up as their full self. Not every parent wants to accept a version of their child that doesn’t fit their expectations. And not every Christmas offers a place of comfort. The world can be loud, cruel, and confusing — but love within a family should never be conditional,” she shares.
Adding, “Slowburn is what it feels like to come home to the people you love most while carrying a part of yourself they’ve never seen — not because you don’t trust them, but because you’re afraid they won’t understand. It’s about a love that has grown too big to hide, a truth that’s tired of waiting for you to be brave. For me, Slowburn captures that quiet moment at the family table, smiling through small talk, meanwhile another life glows inside you, finally asking to be seen.”
