Over the last three years, Consequential has been staking his claim as one of the UK’s most intriguing new voices in electronic music. A figure defined as much by reinvention as by rhythm, the enigmatic producer has spent nearly two decades moving through musical worlds from the energy of hardcore punk to the intricate, bass-driven soundscapes that now form their current sound. That punk intensity never really left, it just developed, channelled into a style where energy meets emotion and delicate melodies glide over impactful beats.
After years immersed in the spheres of live bands and high-octane noise, the artist stepped away from music entirely, taking a pause that would prove crucial. When they returned in late 2022, it was with a renewed sense of purpose and a completely reimagined sound; the debut single, “(4),” marked the beginning of this new chapter, unveiling a sonic vision that blended experimental textures with the forward thrust of club music.
Since that moment, Consequential’s catalogue has expanded rapidly, each release adding a new piece to the ever expanding puzzle of their sonic vision. Based in bass music but drawing freely from liquid drum and bass, trance and dub, it’s an output that reveals control in their production but also an openness to embrace the unexpected, a hallmark of an artist who understands that sonic exhilaration and melodic bliss can overlap to deliver something euphoric.
Their latest single titled “Dark Sky,” represents perhaps the clearest articulation of that vision yet with an engrossing dance music experience brimming with crips beats, delicate arrangement and graceful vocal elements. Stacked with punching rhythms, orchestral instrumentation and gliding synth textures, it’s a driving drum and bass cut that shakes with energy an infectious hooks.
Set up by the pulse of spacey instrumental swells as emotive vocal lines of “dark sky” flutter above, the intricate plucks of notes float around the mix as the arrangement builds with shimmering flashes and alluring vocalisations. Dropping down to an intimate piano-focused sound, the track drops with the slick rattle of drum and bass rhythms as sweeping basslines snake below.
Rolling with charging energy, the track progresses through abrupt shifts with the crack of thunder ushering in an eerie passage before launching into a thrilling finale of overlapping vocals and lively instrumentation, resulting in an epic dance music anthem that’s sure to win over fans across the UK and beyond. As Consequential continues to go from strength to strength with an incredible musical output, we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for 2026 and beyond.
