Somewhere between emotional retreat and empowering confrontation, Luci Ferrum builds her world in the dark and invites you to follow. A product of the global electronic underground, she’s become one of its most exciting new voices, creating music that feels like a descent into a beautiful nightmare. Originally from Russia and now based in the Dominican Republic, Luci channels her own experiences into art that’s at once visceral and relatable.
Since first unveiling her sound in 2021 with her debut full-length album Symphony of a Broken Mind, Luci has earned a reputation for her groundbreaking fusion of industrial electronica, trip hop melancholy and darkwave atmosphere. Her sonic compass points to an unexplored area of the musical map where whispers flicker one moment and eruptions explode the next, all self-produced to balance emotion with powerful musical impact.
Over the last three years, her music has earned international radio support and critical acclaim, while releases like EXGF, her 2023 debut EP, marked her as an innovative, genre-breaking figure in modern electronic music. Now, Luci returns with Post Mortem Invictus, her brand new, highly anticipated sophomore EP that lands like an autopsy of the human psyche. The five-track outing pulls no punches, offering a record that dissects pain in real time, exploring the delicate overlap between self-destruction, survival and ultimately, revenge.
Thematically, the EP frames the ugly beauty of existence, the false comfort of hope when it’s a noose in disguise, the emotional tug-of-war of dying relationships, the self-inflicted mutilations we call conformity. Luci magnifies the grotesque and amplifies the strife until it becomes poetry, delivering biting lyricism wrapped in enthralling, truly cinematic soundscapes.
Kicked off by “Funny Guy,” the steady punch of kick crafts a hypnotic rhythm as the pulse of deep synth stabs and haunting vocal lines create a swirling sense of disorienting electronica. The rattle of live drums takes the track forward as stuttering synth pips forge a spacey atmosphere and belted vocals add punk-inflected intensity on a song she calls “a celebration of victory after everything has gone to hell.”
Taking aim at false promises in “Hope for the Rope,” the track drifts into focus with the quiet taps of synth notes before rustling percussion brings a mesmeric groove of downtempo trip hop-tinged vibes. With hushed vocals snaking above, she presents an enveloping listening experience that’s dark, engaging and fiercely original all at once, swelling with theatrical vocal performance and of-kilter piano flutters to deliver an incredible showcase of her creativity and profound songwriting.
“Push and Pull” arrives with zappy synth tones and delicate piano before the soft crash of cymbal ushers in Luci’s mellow vocal work, forming a dreamy sound that slips into a charging scene to offer an epic outing brimming with intricate ebb and flow. With “Custom Made,” the hazy sweep of synth textures and distorted rattle of drums underpins her alluring voice as she spins riveting melodic lines above the magnetic twists and turns of the arrangement.
Closing the EP with “Cycle Breaker,” the rumble of low end synths and breathy whispers are met by the crisp bounce of metallic synths as the shuffle of drums sets the track in motion. At once melodic and brooding, it’s a stunning finale to Luci Ferrum’s sensational new EP which once again sees her stake her claim as a visionary artist on the rise. With Post Mortem Invictus, she serves up music for those who’ve been cracked open by life and found the beauty inside the wound, capturing the message that sometimes the most human thing we can do is bleed and make it sound magnificent.
