Artur Ziganshin is a thinker first but his thoughts arrive dressed in sound under the alias ShiShi. As an artist, he channels his philosophical inquiries into sonic form, transforming abstract ideas into wholly absorbing listening experiences that take shape as a philosophical experiment, a place where theory meets texture and structure becomes meaning.
With a background in music theory and composition, Artur’s creative process is based in the overlap between scholar and artist. His fascination lies in how form and function interact and how limitations rather than restricting creativity can spark unexpected innovation. Through ShiShi, he explores that tension, crafting soundscapes that feel at once methodical and gripping, with his compositions becoming living laboratories where philosophical concepts are tested in real time by turning thought into atmosphere.
While ShiShi’s work is informed by academic rigour, the music itself is anything but sterile; it’s dark and full of movement, casting the sound of ideas being taken to their breaking point. Drawing from experimental and electronic stylings, his sound balances intricate sound design with brooding musical intensity.
This unique creative lens comes into sharp focus on Blood Tape EP, ShiShi’s debut release and first fully realised statement as an artist. Across five tracks, he constructs a world of moody electronics and shifting textures that thematically asks questions, pulls the listener into its depths and leaves them to interpret the answers for themselves.
Set up by the opener “Intro,” the gentle swell of ominous synth tones and deep low end texture forms an eerie soundscape that expands with the mellow pulse of lead notes, crisp percussion and the contrast of airy piano lines. Title track “Blood Tape” rolls into an engrossing electronic scene that surges with punching beats, shaking bass lines and atmospheric vocalisations to serve up an enthralling experimental dance pop outing.
“Doomnight” jumps straight into a grainy sound of crackling synth rumbles and bouncy, alternative hip hop rhythms capped by commanding vocal leads. Cut with catchy vocal hooks and shrouded in charging dub-inflected vibes, it’s a raucous electronic jam that’s hard hitting and melodic in equal measure.
With “Rocket Ship to Hell,” the delicate flicker of bright synth leads takes listeners on a riveting sonic voyage that swells with the steady thump of drums and bursts of euphoric and dark electronica. Closing the EP with “Storm Clouds Gather,” the stretch of bass piano notes and bright plinks are met with pulsing synth energy and soulful vocal leads.
Flowing with spectacular melodic leads and emotive songwriting, it’s a truly affecting and entirely consuming finale that perfectly concludes the sensational debut EP from ShiShi. With Blood Tape EP, ShiShi arrives as a creator working at the crossroads of philosophy, technology and sound while confirming his status as a must watch artist on the rise.
