Hailing from Tampa, Florida, Lisa Jo offers a voice born not from ease but from sheer determination; her story is one of survival, transformation and creative defiance. Music has always been her companion, a thread running through every high and low, every joy and heartbreak, but when life took away her ability to sing, it didn’t take away her ability to create. Instead, it pushed her to reinvent herself as a songwriter and producer, turning pain into purpose and loss into sound.
Lisa Jo’s journey is as powerful as the music she now creates, once a singer and nurse, her world changed dramatically when a terminal illness destroyed her vocal cords, taking away both her voice and her career. As if that weren’t enough, she was soon faced with a dual cancer diagnosis, multiple myeloma in her blood and bone marrow and lymphoma in her brain and neck. Then, just two years ago, she lost her husband unexpectedly, leaving her to shoulder the weight of grief while caring for her family.
For many, that might have been the end of the story but for Lisa, it became the beginning of a new one and thus songwriting became her new language, a way to make sense of everything she’d endured. Through her music, she found a form of release that was at once personal and widely relatable, offering proof that even when life strips you down to your core, creativity can build something new from the wreckage.

Music has been her lifeline, her form of healing, and her way of reaching others who may be carrying invisible battles of their own. Last September marked Lisa Jo’s official debut as an artist and her early releases quickly caught attention for their emotional context and genre-bending aesthetic while December saw the release of her debut full-length album, Hood Rats. Now she brings us the perfect showcase of her sonic vision with her debut single titled “Lord of the Night,” a collaboration with rapper J-Mac.
The song’s strength lies in its balance, where the interplay between Lisa Jo’s storytelling and J-Mac’s powerful rapped flow combines to deliver a gripping hip hop soundscape. Brought in by the twang of instrumentation and pulse of bass, the rattle of snapping drums ushers in J-Mac’s slick vocal performance as he lays down razor-sharp bars to craft a brooding slice of grooving boom bap hip hop music.
Wrapped in dark atmosphere and cut with enthralling sonic intensity, it’s an epic jam that’s enveloping and infectious in equal measure. It’s a stellar showcase of Lisa Jo’s creative flair and unique sonic vision, marking the start of her thrilling musical adventure as an artist who’s rediscovered her voice.
