German composer and journalist Magdi Aboul-Kheir has long stood at the crossroads of intellectual pursuit and artistic expression, where melody becomes language and curiosity shapes sound. A lifelong music lover whose tastes stretch from Bach to breakbeats, he’s as comfortable writing for orchestras as he is for retro synthwave scenes; his creative world is one where baroque intricacy meets the enveloping aesthetic of modern electronica.
A pianist by training, Magdi prefers to compose not by rigid score but through instinct, heart and mind, with his belief in melody as the core of communication giving his work a warmth no matter the format. From crafting orchestral suites, an ambient soundscapes or a nostalgic synth track, the emotional throughline remains distinct and entirely his own. His compositions invite listeners in, guiding them through moods and memories that feel familiar yet imagined in new and exciting ways.
Last year, he unveiled his highly original solo sonic vision, releasing his debut single “Waves of Desire” in September, followed up by a string of well-received tracks into the build up to his first full-length record, Keys to the Heart – Minimal Music for Pianos. Not content to stay in one lane, his sophomore album Into the Retroverse signalled a sharp stylistic pivot by trading the intimacy of solo piano for colourful synths and rhythm-driven arrangements. Yet even within its electronic shell, the same devotion to melody and emotion shone through, offering a reminder that technology, for Magdi, is simply another instrument for storytelling.

That context between analog heart and digital exploration continued with Nubes Sonorae (Ambient Cloudscapes), an album that drifted skyward into the sphere of ambient music. Bringing us the perfect taste of his sound, he shares his single titled “Aurora Flux,” one of his most transportive works to date. Lifted from his second LP, the track draws inspiration from the real aurora lights that ripple across northern skies. Like its namesake, “Aurora Flux” shimmers with beauty and mystery, formed by the pulse of steady beats and bright synth textures, it progresses gradually, its rhythms mellow but its melodies in constant motion.
Drifting into focus with the soft swell of airy synth tones, the track glides with delicate piano notes as the bright twinkle of flickering tones are met by the soft patter of drums. Taking listeners on a spacey sonic voyage that soars through the night sky as celestial lights dance around, it’s a thoroughly dazzling listening experience brimming with blissful melodic lines and wholly absorbing sound design.
It’s a spectacular showcase of the artist’s creativity and highly unique musical vision, offering a stunning slice of instrumental electronic music that’s impossible not to love. After making a significant impression on his breakout year, we can’t wait to see what Magdi Aboul-Kheir has in store next on this exciting musical adventure.
