Forged in the dim glow of the UK’s avant-garde electronic scene, D3PRT is an artist who lands between rhythm and reflection, noise and silence, control and collapse. A new name in the darker folds of dubstep, breaks and garage, D3PRT’s sound brings the ghost of club culture while feeling like something altogether more meditative. Deliberately eschewing big impact drops, D3PRT’s sound floats in the aftermath, forming in the place where tension buzzes, bass breathes and emotion hangs in the air.
It’s uncommon for a new project to arrive with such a clear and steadfast mission, especially one wrapped in anonymity, but D3PRT’s identity, or lack thereof, feels less like an emphatic artistic statement. The music speaks for itself; sparse and powerful, intimate and immense. It belongs to the long, quiet hours between midnight and dawn, when everything feels at onc heightened and detached.
The debut single, “You Will Never Know,” introduced that world with a four-and-a-half-minute exercise in restraint, drawing you closer until you realise you’ve been holding your breath. Propelled by robust low-end and fractured garage percussion, it balanced its dark aesthetic with moments of stillness, each pause amplifying the pressure to deliver a track all about atmosphere, a sound that could rattle a sound system but carried the intimacy of a headphone listen.

Now, with the release of the brand new sophomore track “FrGrry,” D3PRT sharpens that identity further and kicks things up a gear with a riveting electronic cut. The track feels like a continuation and an expansion, another step into the shadows, but this time with more confidence in the darkness. Drifting into focus with the flutter of stuttered vocal samples and hissing textures, the forceful rumble of wobbling bass energy and punch of rolling percussion sets the track in motion.
Dashed with the growl of wubbing bass synth, rustle of shuffling beats and stabs of peppered vocal shots, the track altogether doges any possible genre label to deliver something entirely new. Stacking the arrangement with intriguing contrasts, the gripping energy and sonic intensity of the instrumentation and crisp drums is offset by the angelic sweep of airy vocal textures, channelling a Sinjin Hawke-esque vibe and filtering it through a charged sonic lens.
Developing with intricate flashes of future R&B, flickering melodies take shape and dissolve into the all-consuming wall of sound, resulting in an incredible listening experience from start to finish. It’s a stellar display of D3PRT’s creativity and sound design flair as they go from strength to strength on what’s sure to be their breakout year as a must watch producer on the rise.
