Manchester-based artist Marcane makes a powerful sound that exists in the tension between beauty and brutality, where cinematic production meets serrated guitar riffs and where moments of emotional collapse become catalysts for creation. Across the fault lines between alternative pop, rock and metalcore, he’s built a wildly original sonic world, a place where emotion and rage dance side by side.
With a background as varied as his influences, Marcane’s creative origins bring together years spent on the road with touring metalcore bands, a love of electronic experimentation and the poignancy of poetry. That recipe forms music that hits as hard as it heals and while drawing inspiration from acts like My Chemical Romance, Nine Inch Nails and Deftones, Marcane crafts music that sounds like a mirror shattering in slow motion.
Marcane made his artistic debut in September 2023 with “Anything or Less,” a darkly magnetic collaboration with Zofia Alaya that introduced his hybrid approach to songwriting. A few months later came “Blurring,” a sophomore release that took his sound further into experimental areas, stacking haunting melodies over industrial rhythms and atmospheric textures. Those first two singles were enough to mark him out as one of the UK’s most thrilling new artists and an creator operating outside of genre boxes.
After a short creative break, Marcane returned last year with new material and now he brings us his latest release with EPHEMERAL, his long-awaited debut EP. Penned during a period of personal reflection, EPHEMERAL presents a survival story; confronting his diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, Marcane used music as a means of processing trauma, fear and recovery.

Kicked off by lead single “Despite the Sharpest Knives,” the EP starts with a visceral, hook-driven track that’s already clocked tens of thousands of spins. Rolling with the metallic strike of industrial beats, crunch of chugging guitars and wrapped in a murky sonic atmosphere stitched with Marcane’s emotive vocal threads, it’s a dark and cinematic alternative anthem that speaks directly to anyone who’s ever fought to rebuild themselves from the ground up. “Blurring” buzzes with fuzzy instrumental tones as the pulse of pattering percussion underpins Marcane’s expressive voice, casting an engrossing jam that glides with immersive electronic aesthetic and brooding alternative rock attitude.
“Platform 2” stands out for its collaboration with Fear Of Marko, bringing another facet of intensity to the mix via a contrasting fusion of sweeping vocalisations and rap-esque vocal performance, surging towards a gripping guitar-driven finale. Tracks like “Talk to Me” flow with impassioned vocals and subtle danceable rhythms, while “Hospital Beds” puts Marcane’s achingly emotive songwriting on full display with a stripped back soundscape that progresses from lightly gritty guitar backing to a spoken-word passage which floats above delicate piano-led arrangement.
Closing the EP with “IDM,” the filtered rustle of percussion jumps into an absorbing jam that flickers between intense alternative energy and moments of dreamy vibes before swelling to a raucous crescendo of crashing guitars, pounding drums and powerful vocal layers. With EPHEMERAL, Marcane has crafted one of the most emotionally charged and sonically adventurous debut statements we’ve heard in a long time and he’s sure to win over fans across the UK and beyond with his highly compelling sonic vision.
