Coming out of the Dutch delta, Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard arrive as a new project driven by the enduring pull of songwriting. Leading the endeavour Joseph Turner himself is an artist shaped by years in rock bands, now stepping into a space where his own vision can shine. What he builds here are songs that don’t hide behind excess, but instead lean into understanding, feeling and form.
His songs come from what he describes as the school of life, shaped by observation, memory and emotional honesty, capturing moments that feel fragile and restrained sitting alongside bursts of cathartic release. Whether soft or loud, the throughline is always directness and nothing feels obscured, even when the emotions themselves are complex.Recording much of the material himself, he draws on his background in rock while allowing space for other influences to surface from pop hooks to country-leaning storytelling.
The Dudes of Hazard, meanwhile, are not a fixed lineup but a fluid collective; old friends and new collaborators move in and out of the project, contributing both in the studio and on stage. This openness gives the music a sense of movement while still orbiting around Joseph’s songwriting, resulting in a musical output that’s less about a defined band identity and more about a shared creative space that allows for spontaneity.

That context is immediately apparent on their debut single titled “A New Moon,” a track that progresses gradually, revealing itself in its own time. It feels like the beginning of something rather than a definitive introduction, a first chapter that hints at a wider story still to come. Revolving around acoustic production and a warm indie aesthetic, intertwining guitars guide the melody forward while the spacious arrangement allows Joseph’s expressive voice to glide above.
Lyrically and thematically, the song reflects on a moment of transition, the point where hope begins to re-emerge after a period of uncertainty. Opened by the taps of percussion shots as Joseph counts into the track, a bright folk pop arrangement flows with airy guitar leads dancing above the steady rustle of drums and warm chords. Flowing with breezy melodic leads carrying storytelling lyricism, the track rolls with a buoyant atmosphere cut with slick instrumental flourishes and charming vocal performance.
Catchy, engaging and original all at once, “A New Moon” develops with subtle rock energy and soulful vocalisations to deliver a spectacular finale. Making a superb entrance as an exciting new project on the rise, the track sees Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard put their songwriting talent and performance panache on full display and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store next.
Commenting on the single, Joseph shares, “This song came from a moment of not having answers yet and the message is to get through the rough patch to find something different, but beautiful on the other side. Sometimes you just gotta shift your perspective and let the change come from within.”
