Based in Tunbridge Wells in the south east of England, Cosmic Songbird is the artistic expression of Natalie Farrell, a vocalist and sound healer whose work moves beyond normal musical definitions into something more immersive. Her sound is based in the idea that the voice can act as a conduit, transmitting emotion, energy and frequency in a way that feels both earthly and metaphysical. She creates experiences using melody and presence to open up internal spaces where sound and feeling begin to blur.
Singing and playing piano from the age of eight, Natalie developed her voice through years of performance across London and the wider UK music sphere, appearing on television, radio and live stages. At a certain stage, she chose to step away from the industry entirely, taking a conscious break that would ultimately reshape her creative direction. During that time, she wrote her book Light the Way, a process that opened up a different way of approaching both voice and artistic expression.
That shift is central to the Cosmic Songbird project; trained as an opera singer, Natalie began to explore areas outside traditional structures and channeled vocal expression as a means of transforming experience through sound. The voice, in this context, becomes a tool for something more expansive, capable of conveying emotion and amplifying feeling, allowing compositions to form naturally.
Stepping into this new identity in 2022, Cosmic Songbird introduced herself with the debut EP Born to Stand Out, followed by two singles and the full-length record No Longer Lost, created in collaboration with pianist and composer Frances Yonge. Now, she returns to that starting point with the re-release of Born To Stand Out, presenting it as a fully enveloping body of work that sits at the crossroads of music and consciousness.

Across four tracks, the EP forms a continuous experience, built from intuitive, in-the-moment recordings where her voice is layered with Crystal Tones alchemy bowls to create binaural soundscapes. Recorded across two sessions, the material was not pre-written but allowed to take shape spontaneously, with each track developed in real time, shaped by voice, frequency and presence.
Slowly drifting into focus with the resonant drone and airy vocalisations on “The Unconscious Cacoon,” Cosmic Songbird’s voice layers up with stretched melodies, spoken word elements and expressive noises as sparse instrumental shots add to the arrangement. It’s a truly transportive listening experience that induces a meditative state as Cosmic Songbird’s hypnotic vocals rise in intensity before sinking back into mellow delivery.
“Unravling the Truth” forms with chiming tones and sweeping vocal lines, casting a mesmeric soundscape through minimal arrangement. With “The Fallen Voice,” Cosmic Songbird’s spoken word lines are met by rising vocal layers which engage in a balletic dance around her steady leads, forming an enchanting a cappella musical experience unlike any other.
Bringing the EP to a stunning conclusion, “Becoming the Luminary” takes shape through stacks of overlapping vocalisations, which flutter across the mix with lively flickers and energising ululations, resulting in a truly arresting finale to her sensational debut release. Since its initial premiere at The Awakening Closing Ceremony in 2022, the Born to Stand Out has already made a strong impression on listeners and it will no doubt continue to make an impact for years to come.
