Based in Gothenburg, the Swedish electronic artist known as Gryr has spent years moving through international music spheres, appearing at festivals such as Roskilde, SXSW and Way Out West, while earning recognition from platforms like The Guardian, The Fader and Highsnobiety. Today, his current work finds him focusing on something more delicate, more controlled.
Stepping into his solo identity in October 2022 with the debut single “Bloom,” Gryr began to craft a catalogue defined less by immediacy and more by atmosphere. Since that first outing, a steady string of singles, remixes and two EPs have mapped out his sonic language built on texture and a careful sense of emotional pacing. Collaborations with artists including Adna, Hannes Kretzer, Jonatan Josefsson and Jesse Brown have added input to his vision, but the core of the project remains entirely his own.
Measured, intentional and quietly immersive, his sound is instilled with an understanding that not everything needs to be pushed to the surface. His music doesn’t rush toward impact, it flows gradually, allowing space for detail to emerge over time, offering a style that values patience, where subtle shifts in tone or rhythm carry meaning as much as any obvious melodic hook.

Now he brings us his latest release with his new aptly titled single “Drift,” a downtempo electronic outing that’s enveloping and danceable in equal measure, capturing a smokey aesthetic found in the work of artists like Mazoulew and Bonobo. Revolving around warm pads, shifting textures and a gently pulsing groove, the track glides with steady energy and intricate ebb and flow, resulting in an utterly engrossing listening experience.
At once energising and hypnotic, the track builds from the soft punch of kick and muted synth stabs while airy atmospheric textures softly swirl across the mix. Gently swelling in intensity, the shuffle of percussive elements build up before dropping away, crafting a sense of delicate momentum. Dashed with the flicker of bright piano notes and wrapped in a hazy musical fabric, the track casts an enchanting sonic spell that’s absorbing and intoxicating from start to finish.
Landed somewhere between ambient-leaning melodic house and cinematic electronica, “Drift” fits naturally into moments that call for depth rather than distraction. Late nights, solitary walks, or simply the act of stepping away from noise, these are the spaces where Gryr’s music feels most at home. With “Drift,” he offers another entry point into that world that feels calm, immersive and highly affecting and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store next.
