Hailing from Dallas, Awaiting Abigail is an alternative rock a band whose story is equally based in history and reinvention. Though the group officially formed in 2024, the origins of the project stretch back decades, built on long-standing friendships, earlier collaborations and a shared passion for guitar-driven intensity. What exists now is not a nostalgic reunion project but experienced musicians reshaping their past into a new chapter with enhanced momentum.
Three members first played together in the late 90s as part of Lost Reality, carrying forward a creative bond forged years earlier. When they reunited, they brought that connection with them while expanding the project through the addition of father-daughter duo Mike and Kori Tolfa. At the centre of that transformation is vocalist Abigail Hill, a theatre arts student whose arrival completed the lineup and ultimately inspired the band’s name. Her presence became the catalyst that turned old musical chemistry into a recalibrated vision and with commanding vocal ability and natural stage presence, she represents the point where Awaiting Abigail moved from possibility into reality.
When founding member James encountered Abigail’s vocal range, it quickly became clear she was the missing piece and Awaiting Abigail became a name charged with symbolism. Their debut EP, Bad Mind, arrived at the end of 2024 and across four tracks, Awaiting Abigail balanced robust instrumentation with melodic appeal, presenting themselves as a group capable of delivering both impact and hooks.

Now they return with their latest single titled “Funhouse,” a release that takes their vision into darker and more cinematic areas. Laying down a heavy gothic, emo rock and metal-inflected piece, the track pairs dramatic storytelling with enveloping arrangement, the track delivers a theatrical slice of enthralling alternative rock music. Its storyline follows Abigail Hill trapped inside a relationship with no obvious escape route.
The title becomes metaphor, a carnival maze filled with lies, deceit and mirrors that distort reality, while emotional manipulation takes physical form, creating a landscape where confusion loops endlessly and exits remain hidden. Setting an eerie, carnival-esque scene with the jaunty twinkle of chiming, lullaby tones, the track crashes with pounding drums and crunching guitars as intricate string notes add to the haunting atmosphere.
Flowing atop the waltzing rhythm, Abigail airy voice delivers sweeping melodies while the track surges with powerful chords and splashing drums, resulting in an utterly arresting listening experience. It’s a spectacular showcase of their vivid songwriting and gripping sound, offering an entirely engrossing soundscape unlike any other.
Bringing the song alive on screen, the music video, directed and produced by Marc Coronado, was filmed at Platinum Music Complex NRH and across various Dallas locations, basing the band’s theatrical imagination in real local spaces. Featuring shots of the band performing the track cut with cinematic storytelling scenes, it’s an epic visual pairing that amplifies the music in sensational fashion.
