Welsh electronic duo Honddu pronounce their name honn-thee, but their music speaks in a language all its own. Formed by Holly Müller and David Neale, the pair create songs that feel half-remembered and intensely present at the same time, where smokey tape textures, bright synth work and poignant emotion coalesce in stunning musical form. Their world is analogue-tinged, cinematic and profoundly human, built from fragments that somehow glow brighter once broken apart.
There is a fitting origin story behind the sound; Honddu channel melodies through a 90s tape machine found in a skip, transforming discarded machinery into the beating heart of their creative process. They’re artists drawn to texture, memory and the beauty of things weathered by time. They first met in a Feminist Literature lecture, then continued their conversation through music and since then, they’ve been building a shared language where voice, synths and tape hiss move together in elegant tension.
At the centre of Honddu’s sound is Holly’s voice, carrying lyrics rich with story, while around her, David constructs warm analogue landscapes that shift from delicate shimmer to surging with dramatic impact. Those contrasts have helped draw comparisons to names such as Portishead and Kate Bush, while echoes of Jenny Hval, Broadcast and Massive Attack drift through their sonic output.

In April 2024, they unveiled their shared sonic vision with the debut single “The Gallop of Love” and since then, they’ve released a string of well-received tracks. Now Honddu release their brand new single titled “Winifred,” a track framed as a protective message to a young girl struggling with the pain of growing up. Co-produced by JT, the track blends cinematic alternative pop with indie electronica while trip hop rhythmic flow injects a hypnotic motion throughout.
Drifting into focus with soft instrumental tones as Holly’s expressive vocals flutter above, the quiet rustle of percussion builds with pulsing kick and tapped shots to steadily build up a sense of anticipation. Gliding with winding synth leads and warm low end textures, Holly’s voice dances above to cast an utterly spellbinding soundscape that’s original, grooving and wholly absorbing all at once.
It’s an engrossing slice of Honddu’s incredible musical vision, offering a moving musical moment that’s catchy and meaningful in equal measure. As they continue to go from strength to strength on their exciting musical journey, Honddu are sure to win over countless fans across the UK and beyond with their unique and truly compelling sound.
