Ireland-based singer-songwriter and producer Damien Cain has spent decades moving through the darker spheres of alternative music with a decorated career informed by reinvention. Active since the late 80s, his work has consistently flickered between hard rock, gothic melancholy and emotionally charged alternative songwriting, creating a unique and extensive catalogue. He’s never seemed content to remain static and that curious musical spirit has seem him go from strength to strength with each creative move.
Damien first earned underground recognition through his project CAIN, most notably with “Age of Darkness,” a cult international success that went on to earn an IMPALA Diamond award after selling more than 250,000 copies. That early chapter established the dramatic intensity and emotional context that would become central to his work moving forward. Along the way, he also expanded his creative world through collaborations and lyric writing, including work with L’Âme Immortelle and a collaboration with Sir Christopher Lee on the track “Elenore.”
Multiple appearances in the German charts further expanded his presence within the European alternative scene, though his music always seemed to exist slightly outside the norm. Now based in Ireland, Damien Cain has opened another new chapter with last year’s album Standarte, a profoundly personal release that paired hard rock, darkwave textures and reflective songwriting into something equally epic and intimate. The record found international attention quickly, entering German and American Alternative Charts while receiving radio airplay across Europe, North and South America and Asia.

Now Damien Cain returns with “Caleb,” an upcoming single that shifts his sound into an even more emotionally exposed space while retaining the distinct imprint that’s long rippled throughout his music. Featuring UK-based vocalist Jamie Wiltshire, the track plays out as a duet exploring memory, loss and the painful understanding that comes with realising something beautiful has already slipped away. Released ahead of Pride Month, “Caleb” carries a subtle queer perspective while remaining based in a relatable emotional experience.
Brought in by bright piano plinks, Jamie’s soulful vocal leads enter above the soft pulse of percussion to form an intimate soundscape before the track erupts with punching drums and lightly crunching guitar chords as Damien’s commanding vocals ring out above. Rolling with enthralling rock energy cut with memorable melodic writing and poignant lyricism, “Caleb” serves up an epic slice of pop-tinged alternative music that’s gripping and moving in equal measure.
Brought to life with superb musicianship and wrapped in impactful production by Jay Dixie, it’s a spectacular showcase of Damien Cain’s engaging songwriting talent and the performance flair of two singers with incredible creative chemistry. Revealing another side of his diverse musical output, “Caleb” sees Damien Cain deliver a stunning musical moment that’s both emotionally powerful and widely appealing.
Ahead of its official release on the 29th of May, you can pre-save “Caleb” here
