A certain air of mystery surrounds Lucent Latitude, a new artist who made an emphatic entrance this year from San Diego. With very little noise outside the music itself, the producer has quickly established a sonic identity forged in atmosphere, movement and emotional immersion rather than personality-driven charisma. Lucent Latitude lets the music carry the impact, building worlds through rhythm, texture and carefully controlled momentum that takes shape in an energising deep house form.
That approach became immediately apparent with the arrival of debut single āVelvet Currentsā in April, a release that introduced listeners to Lucent Latitudeās transportive electronic music style. Shortly afterwards came the sophomore outing āThe Collective Beat,ā expanding that sonic output further before the debut full-length record Midnight Current landed, confirming the projectās status in remarkably quick succession.
The a cinematic quality running through the project is based squarely in physical movement and even at its most reflective, the music remains connected to the body and the dancefloor. That balance now comes sharply into focus on the latest single titled āHands Up,ā a pop-inflected deep house release that continues Lucent’s fascination with emotional momentum, constructing a listening experience that plays out as an infectious and danceable jam.

At first, āHands Upā feels restrained; swooping vocalisations and gently clapped rhythms cast a soulful scene before silky vocal leads and warm piano chords build up the arrangement. Led by alluring female vocals which provide a running commentary on the music itself as it plays, from various processing styles, instrumental choices and the structural flow of the arrangement, Lucent crafts a soundscape that’s playful and catchy in equal measure.
With pulsing basslines injecting a smooth groove, accented by the crisp snap of drums, colourful instrumental flickers provide an engaging sense of rise and fall. Wrapped up in exquisite sound design, the track glides through moments of breezy verses and stunning disco-tinged choruses packed full of stacked instrumentation and intricate beats, resulting in a euphoric dancefloor moment that’s truly impossible not to love.
It’s an incredible display of Lucent’s creativity and production flair, offering a superb dance pop track that’s guaranteed to win over countless new listeners around the world. With only a handful of releases so far, Lucent Latitude already feels thoroughly assured in its identity and we can’t wait to see what else comes on what’s sure to be their breakout year as a must watch new artist on the rise.
