Los Angeles-based artist kenzie makes alternative pop filled with detail and small emotional truths that instantly open larger feelings. Writing through heartbreak, anxiety or the feelings of growing up, she brings immense sensitivity to her music, alongside the genuine presence that’s helped her build a vast following of listeners around the world.
Finding her voice came through years of self-discovery and earlier in her creative life, songwriting sessions could feel like spaces where her opinions carried less weight, even though the songs were meant to represent her. Raised in Pittsburgh, she began voice lessons at six after constantly singing around the house. Dance came even earlier, beginning at the age of two but once she learned how to sing, the connection expanded into something lasting.
After moving to Los Angeles at 11, she began working with established co-writers and producers, eventually releasing an album in 2018. In 2024, she released her first full album under Hollywood Records, biting my tongue, marking a decisive emotional turning point. Going from strength to strength with each move, kenzie’s music has made a significant impact, clocking hundreds of millions of spins online.

Now kenzie moves into another chapter with notes from the in between, a new five-song EP accompanied by videos for each track. The EP captures kenzie in transition, suspended between adolescence and adulthood, certainty and confusion, closure and unanswered questions. Penned during a period of emotional and life change, the songs explore loss, attraction, self-doubt and reflection with unfiltered honesty.
Lifted from the EP, “sophie” stands as the perfect showcase of her current sound, offering a mellow alternative pop outing brimming with hushed vocals, intricate instrumentation and poignant lyricism. Opened by kenzie’s tender vocals and gently plucked instrumental notes, the lilting rhythmic sway flows into a blissful arrangement of washing textures, strummed guitar chords and alluring vocal layers which overlap above.
Gliding with subtly punchy drums and capped by expressive vocal performance, “sophie” sees kenzie serve up an enchanting musical moment that’s truly impossible not to love. Directed by Brooke James, the music video offers an engaging visual pairing for the music, featuring kenzie and the character of Sophie spending time on a beach at night. As she continues to impress with her stunning musical output, we can’t wait to see what kenzie has in store next on her exciting musical adventure.
