Atlanta-based artist Anji Kaizen has spent the last few years earning a stellar reputation as one of the city’s most compelling independent artists on the rise. An award-winning songwriter and vocalist, she operates at the crossroads of alternative pop and rock, creating music instilled with poetic confessional lyricism, commanding vocals and intricate harmony arrangements. With a sound that deftly balances emotion and intensity, Anji has been making a significant impression while remaining entirely independent.
Since landing on Atlanta’s local music scene back in 2018, Anji Kaizen and her band have become a familiar presence on some of the city’s most revered stages. The release of her Dark EP firmly planted her on the map of must watch names which she built on with the arrival of Light EP in 2020. Across the years that followed, she built momentum through live performances at venues including The Masquerade, The Vinyl and Smith’s, confirming her status as a magnetic performer capable of translating the emotional context of her recordings into an engaging live experience.
That rise has also seen her play alongside established artists, including opening for Royal & the Serpent during their headline show in Atlanta. Kaizen’s voice has also travelled far beyond her own releases and as a featured vocalist, she’s collaborated with DJ and producer Scales on tracks including “Butterfly Effect,” bringing her ethereal vocal style to audiences around the world. Her music has also found a place within film, with her track Titanic featured in Black Lion Media’s independent production Crimson Tower, exposing her work to a wider international audience through cinema.
In 2022, her breakout single “Blink” was released to critical acclaim and along the way, she’s also linked up with the likes of Mouse’s Mistake, Cameron Berner, RickyJab, Seiyah, Shaun Mason, J’Mar, Clark May and Within A Reverie for collaborative releases. Now, Kaizen is stepping into new musical sphere with her latest single titled “OVERDRIVE,” created specifically for the independent film Fortune Cookie, directed by Erin Aler and Jordyn.

Designed to accompany a high-energy car chase sequence, the song mirrors the film’s fast-moving scene, which follows two best friends who discover that their fortune cookie predictions are becoming reality. The demands of the project encouraged Anji to explore a different sonic direction, this time embracing hyperpop and alternative pop influences to create a sense of movement, excitement and momentum. The song was crafted to capture the feeling of speed and freedom, delivering an adrenaline-fuelled soundtrack for the film’s most intense moments.
Its development was shaped through an ongoing collaboration with the film’s directors, with multiple versions arising through feedback while taking cues from tracks such as Charli XCX’s “Von Dutch,” Blackpink’s “Jump” and BBNO$’s “1800.” Jumping straight into a driving synth-focused soundscape, buzzy textures and bright leads are propelled by punching beats while Anji’s slick vocals enter to spin infectious hooks above the exhilarating arrangement. Dashed with processed vocalisations, steady rhythmic flow and instantly catchy vocal leads, “OVERDRIVE” sees Anji serve up a thrilling alternative pop anthem that’s memorable, transportive and fiercely original from start to finish.
Packed full of energy, expressive vocal performance and wrapped in impactful production, it’s an epic two-and-a-half minute potent pop dose that showcases her enthralling sonic output. With “OVERDRIVE,” Anji Kaizen demonstrates once again that artistic development remains one of her defining strengths and through alternative rock, cinematic collaborations or adventurous pop experimentation, she continues to expand her creative world while remaining fuelled by her steadfast independent spirit.
