Axiom Tha Wyze has spent years earning a stellar reputation as one of the most dedicated voices in the independent hip hop sphere. Hailing from Boise in Idaho, he’s confirmed his status not just as a rapper but as a producer, storyteller and artist devoted to preserving the very substance of the culture. Across more than a decade of releases, collaborations and live performances, he’s developed a style based in intricate lyricism, thoughtful reflection and a steadfast connection to profound writing. Exploring perseverance, fatherhood, substance abuse or the realities of everyday life, Axiom approaches every track with the vision of creating something that strikes a chord beyond the moment.
The balance he strikes between sonic impact and emotional honesty finds Axiom equally comfortable behind the microphone and the production boards, building his own sonic landscapes before filling them with vivid tales and carefully constructed bars. Gritty textures, soulful samples and boom bap inspired drums provide the framework for music that feels tethered to hip hop tradition while remaining highly personal.
Over the last decade, he’s delivered an extensive catalogue of well-received releases while linking up with the likes of Qoi, R Mac, Yung Verb, Darian Renee, Shaka Shine, Spin Master Mugen, Madisun Proof, Andy O and others for collaborative releases along the way. Despite the many partnerships and projects however, the crux of Axiom’s music remains centred on expression and connection. He speaks openly about wanting audiences to experience something almost spiritual at his live performances, creating moments that move further than mere entertainment and into something more meaningful.
Now, that vision reaches a new level with Gunsmoke & Ghosts, an EP that embraces both personal identity and regional heritage while staying true to the principles that have guided Axiom’s decorated career over the years. Entirely produced by the artist himself in Boise, the project feels like a declaration of self-determination and artistic confidence, drawing on his own experiences and environment to create a work that feels truly connected to where he comes from.

Years spent working on ranches and engaging with the outdoors become essential elements of the project’s storytelling, informing themes of survival, independence and outsider status. Additional contributions from local boom bap figure P Dirt and horror-style rapper BVTS introduce further dimensions to the record’s outlaw spirit, helping expand the EP’s contextual scope while maintaining the focus on the themes that drive the wider project. Set up by the curtain raiser “Introduction,” twanging guitar notes and the dusty rustle of drums underpin Axiom’s razor sharp rap delivery to form an alternative hip hop outing cut with slick samples, moody instrumentation and smooth groove.
On “Stick Up,” Axiom collaborates with P Drit to serve up a powerful hip hop jam that rolls with punchy drums and commanding vocal work, with the two rappers spitting gripping bars above a restrained, piano-focused arrangement. “Gimme Da Loop” drifts into view with the rattle of drums and mellow bounce of bass capped by Axiom’s expressive rapped flow which rolls above to craft a stunning showcase of his knack for framing his lyrical flair in brooding hip hop soundscapes.
“Frost Bite” sees BVTS lay down his laid back vocals alongside Axiom’s hook-focused writing, resulting in a fiercely original jam propelled by snapping beats, piquant instrumental elements and compelling vocal presence. The “Campfire Interlude” presents a transportive moment on the EP, with the crackle of a fire met by storytelling spoken words before the flutter of strummed guitar and pluck of bass notes is met by the taps of drums to provide a breezy instrumental passage.
Closing the EP with “Faint of Heart,” woozy vocalisations sets up the rhythmic bounce of catchy rapped lines as pulsing percussion and intricate instrumentation back Axiom’s epic vocal leads as he delivers motivating lyricism throughout. Fresh from completing a Northwest tour alongside Cali Agents, Axiom Tha Wyze arrives at this moment with considerable momentum behind him. Gunsmoke & Ghosts captures an artist fully embracing his identity, drawing strength from his experiences and transforming them into incredible hip hop music and in doing so, Axiom continues to demonstrate why his music connects with listeners seeking substance, skill and honesty.
