Miami-based artist and producer Roi Buchbinder, better known as BFAULT, has built a decorated career around complete creative control. Working across music production, songwriting, composition and mixing, he’s confirmed his status as an independent artist capable of moving between commercial releases and cinematic scoring. From creating impactful trap and alternative urban music to composing for the screen, his work is linked by a production style that blends technical skill with a knack for atmosphere.
Before unveiling his solo material, BFAULT had already earned recognition through his work in film; his music has featured in feature-length productions including Boneyard, MR-9: Do or Die and Mojave Diamonds, demonstrating an ability to create music that serves both story and emotion. His growing portfolio has seen him contribute as a composer, songwriter and mix engineer while developing a reputation for versatility across hip hop, pop, trap and alternative genres.
Among those projects, his work on “Boneyard” saw him co-write and produce alongside Brandon Frenkiel for the 2024 crime thriller Boneyard starring Mel Gibson and 50 Cent. The release further highlighted BFAULT’s flair for bringing together the worlds of commercial music and cinematic storytelling, amplifying the visual quality that’s become such a vital feature of his production.
That cinematic perspective is equally present in his own music and BFAULT approaches each release through mood and story. His productions combine crisp digital sound design with the warmth and grit of analogue hardware, creating a distinctive hybrid sound that moves between aggressive trap energy and more atmospheric, alternative vibes. Making his solo debut with About Time in 2022, he followed up last year with the sophomore album, Pockets and now he returns with what may be his most ambitious work thus far. His third full-length album titled BACKMIND is a nine-track concept record that plays out as one continuous psychological journey across a single night.

The LP follows the passing hours from midnight through to the first light of morning, creating a tale that mirrors both time and emotional progression. BACKMIND is divided into three deliberate chapters, each consisting of three songs. The opening section, Reflections, explores memory and personal contemplation, serving as an inventory of thoughts and emotions while Turbulence follows with a far more confrontational energy, descending into conflict and internal chaos through harder, more aggressive production. Finally, Acceptance provides the emotional resolution, carrying the listener into the calm of early morning as uncertainty gives way to understanding.
Kicked off by “Midnight Drift,” the album places listeners within the reflective atmosphere that shapes its opening moments, casting a murky alternative hip hop outing that flows from smokey atmosphere toward punching drums and slick rap flow. “Backyard” follows with a breezy jam that glides with pulsing bass, pattering drums and mellow bars cut with infectious hooks and bright instrumental flickers. “Come Back” jumps with snapping beats and woozy arrangement as BFAULT’s smooth voice rolls above to deliver a superb display of his unique sound and performance talent.
“Blurred” brings in the next chapter with a swell of instrumental textures and airy guitar tones as dreamy vocal layers are met by rustling drums to forge an immersive alternative R&B scene. On “White Rum,” hazy vocalisations and marching percussion slips into an experimental hip hop outing brimming with clacking tones and rattling hi hats capped by commanding vocal performance. “Backfire” pairs pulsing elements and organic guitar tones before gliding with booming beats, zapping synths and dynamic vocal work.
Starting the final chapter with the vintage brass tones and power pop aesthetic of “Under The Surface,” the metallic punch of drums shifts the vibe into an enveloping soundscape of crunchy beats, stacks of instrumental textures and melodic vocal leads. “The Boy” lands with dazzling tones before switching up with pounding old school rhythms and rap delivery that’s at once laid back and razor sharp. Closing the journey to “Blue Window,” a soulful blend of intricate tone, warm bass and fluttering guitars underpin charming vocal work to present a memorable finale to BFAULT’s incredible new album.
