Newcomer Buggy is an artist bringing a welcome sense of disruption to the Appalachian electronic scene by transforming disarray into catharsis and creating music that feels intentionally unruly, emotionally charged and conceptually important. With more than a decade of production experience behind her, Buggy has developed a sound and aesthetic that eschews predictability or commercial appeal in favour of something far more visceral, a collision of club energy, personal expression and uncompromising artistic identity.
Her approach to music is ultimately driven by extremes; as a DJ and producer, Buggy moves between club-focused hip hop and hardstyle, creating sets that constantly shift direction. One moment the dancefloor is pulled into a bass-heavy groove, the next it’s thrown headfirst into a barrage of hard-hitting electronic intensity. Visually, her world is just as distinctive, drawing heavily from cyberpunk and strobe-core aesthetics to create an immersive environment where sound, imagery and emotion become intrinsically linked.
Buggy has crafted an artistic identity that feels at once confrontational and profoundly personal, a reflection of the themes that drive her work. Now, those themes reach their most fully realised expression on her debut album titled Sissy pt. 1, an eight-track record that serves as a statement of artistic intent and an exploration of her own experiences. Inspired by her time within the Asheville techno scene and shaped by experiences beyond it, the album examines paranoia and violence in contemporary trans American life through the lens of hard techno and trance.
The release channels intense emotional states into sound, using electronic as a vehicle for expression and throughout the album, Buggy explores feelings of fear, tension and uncertainty, transforming them into arresting sonic landscapes. Hard techno rhythms and trance-inspired textures become tools for communicating experiences that are often difficult to articulate through words alone and the music becomes a means of sharing that reality, inviting listeners into an emotional space that’s often uncomfortable but truly honest.

The album’s release has been supported by a creative rollout that mirrors the project’s adventurous spirit where a hundred “Sissy buckets” have been hidden throughout her city, with a central repository providing the coordinates needed to locate them. Each bucket contains a disturbing message alongside a signed Pokémon card. Fans who bring one of the buckets to a live performance are rewarded with lifelong membership in what Buggy calls the Hive, extending the album’s themes into a real-world interactive experience.
Kicked off by “The Scream,” the rumble of deep bass tones and jittery buzz of bleeping tones rolls with an uptempo beat to form an energising dance-focused soundscape that jumps with aggressive vocalisations and screeching synth textures. Building with slick drum rolls and wrapped in moody atmosphere, it’s a gripping and thoroughly intense outing that puts Buggy’s powerful sound of production flair on full display. “Demon Time” stutters into focus with stabby drum shots and chopped synth tones before launching with rumbling energy to serve up an epic listening experience packed full of twists and turns.
“Parasite” brings big room energy where lively synth flickers and powerful low end drive combine with rustling percussion to craft a thrilling sound. “Cut the Air” builds with stacks of staccato instrumental elements, offset by bright vocal tones and passages of downtempo trap vibes, leaning into Buggy’s experimental electronic pop side. With “Run,” zappy synths build with stomping energy as the flutter of sweeping distorted synths usher in a raucous outing that showcases Buggy’s incredible sound design and creativity.
“Sunset on the Balds” pairs shimmering instrumental textures with the steady momentum of pulsing drums and bass to create an engaging soundscape of sonic contrasts before “Storm Drain” forms with the sound of rain drops, woozy synths and marching rhythms. Closing the record with “Dawn” the atmospheric patter of chiming tones and punching kick sees Buggy serve up a mesmeric and truly engrossing finale to her stellar debut album. With Sissy pt. 1, Buggy combines profound themes, adventurous production and a fearless creative identity to firmly plant herself on the map of must watch artists on the rise.
