Newcomer Novitza creates enveloping music conjured from a space where silence is every bit as important as sound and the spaces between notes serve real purpose. The Montenegrin composer and singer-songwriter has built an artistic identity around atmosphere, restraint and emotional impact, creating work that eschews excess in favour of something more measured and lasting. Drawing from a background in classical singing and guitar, his creative path has been paved by years of dedication, personal experience and a steadfast mission of developing a voice entirely his own.
Raised in a small town in Montenegro, Novitza immersed threw himself into music from an early age. His classical training provided the technical skillset but it was the pursuit of emotional context that gradually defined his artistic direction. Avoiding pop structures or embracing grandiose displays of virtuosity, he became increasingly interested in what could be communicated through simplicity.
Space, patience and careful composition became central elements of his work, allowing emotion to emerge naturally and organically. His influences reveal much about that philosophy; the emotional style associated with post-minimalist and contemporary classical composers such as Max Richter and Arvo Pärt echo throughout his sound, while cinematic orchestration has also left a lasting impression.
The wider world of film composition, including the work of Hans Zimmer, informs the expansive yet intimate atmosphere that characterises his music, resulting a sound that feels arresting, reflective and moving. That journey has not been without setbacks and more than a decade ago, Novitza travelled to London in pursuit of an opera audition, an opportunity that ultimately did not lead where he had hoped. Now, years later, he returns to the city through his own original work, carrying with him a clearer artistic identity and a determination to establish himself on his own terms.

This exciting next chapter arrives with the release of his debut four-track EP, From Darkness Unto Light, issued through the Animal Farm Music imprint and recorded and produced in London. The release is presented as a cinematic journey revolving around contrast, where intimacy and scale, stillness and movement, contemplation and strength all coalesce within its framework. Throughout From Darkness Unto Light, Novitza creates a sonic world that belongs entirely to itself, where orchestral textures and modern aesthetic meets in service of emotional storytelling.
Opening with “A Beat More for a Waltz,” the EP starts with fluttering choral vocals, met by the bright run of instrumental tones which casts an immersive soundscape that flows into a theatrical pop scene where expressive vocals float above steady rhythmic energy. Developing with rousing instrumentation and pattering drums as marching rhythms and slick guitar leads add to the energy of the arrangement.
“Laeti’t Be the One” follows with downtempo beats, soft piano notes and plucked pizzicato strings as emotive vocals ring out above, serving up a dazzling slice of orchestral pop that swells with stunning melodic leads and wholly absorbing instrumentation. “The Brooding and the Song” drifts into focus with the twinkle of chiming tones, setting a lullaby-esque sound that flows with the sweep of gliding textures and elegant vocal leads backed by delicate piano notes. Gradually rising with pulsing percussion and the gentle twang of guitar, it’s the perfect showcase of Novitza’s engrossing compositional voice.
Closing the EP with “Till the Stars Run Out of Light,” graceful piano lines and tender vocals swirl into a beautiful orchestral pop experience, offering a spectacular conclusion to Novitza’s incredible debut release. As first statements go, From Darkness Unto Light reveals a songwriter and composer whose greatest strength lies in knowing exactly when to speak and when to let the music breathe.
