Originally from the south suburbs of Chicago and now based in the Washington DC area, Heddy Edwards creates music that sits between certainty and ambiguity. Working across songwriting, production and poetry, she’s built a creative world where emotion takes precedence over explanation with her songs often feeling like fragments of memory or passing thoughts, drifting through different musical forms while remaining instilled with personal storytelling. Drawing inspiration from filmmakers such as David Lynch and Sofia Coppola, Heddy crafts music that balances understanding with mystery and familiarity with something slightly out of reach.
That unique approach first arrived with her 2021 debut single âwhite lightning,â a release that introduced listeners to her atmospheric songwriting style. The following yearâs âcherry pickerâ expanded her sonic output into more anthemic areas while preserving the reflective qualities that was present in her earliest work. After a brief pause, Edwards returned earlier this year with a fresh batch of material beginning with âCinematic Vision,â followed by âThe Other Side of Townâ and âDreamcast,â each offering a window into the artistic identity she’s been shaping.
Now, that journey fully crystallises with the release of her debut EP titled The Other Side of hell is a heaven so delicate. The project serves as a reflection of Heddy’s personal experiences and creative voyage to date with the title itself functioning as both a life philosophy and a summary of the path that brought her here. After spending a decade without writing a song, a car accident became the catalyst that inspired her to finally pursue her dream of creating and releasing music.
Alongside that transformation came a process of confronting and reconciling lifelong mental health challenges, themes that run throughout the EP and give the record its emotional impact. Recorded over nine days in Massachusetts alongside Alan Day, the EP combines intimate songwriting with Alan’s talents as a producer, instrumentalist and mixing engineer shaping a full-band sound that feels immersive despite being based in a solo vision.

Opening track âBlack Tunnelâ sets the EPâs dynamic character with soft synth textures and delicate instrumentation creating a dreamlike atmosphere before warm acoustic guitars and laid-back rhythms settle into place beneath Heddy’s elegant vocal performance. The song gradually expands, moving from intimate moments into a soaring finale marked by crunchy guitars, driving drums and infectious melodies.
âThe Other Side of Townâ takes a different path, playing out as a surreal suburban gothic tale centred around a community divided by wealth and memory. Inspired by the work of The Smashing Pumpkins and Kate Bush, the track moves from understated folktronica textures toward an ambitious alternative pop climax while exploring the lasting emotional presence and the psychological traces people leave behind.
âCinematic Visionâ draws from a period of personal los, written while witnessing a loved one fade from life, the song also captures the rediscovery of wonder within everyday moments. Acoustic guitars, shimmering instrumentation and gentle rhythmic movement combine to create a nostalgic yet highly personal pop rock atmosphere that balances emotional context with a sense of beauty and hope.
The EPâs only previously unreleased song, âFever, can believe it,â reveals another side of Heddyâs creative instincts. Beginning with intimate bedroom pop influences, the track blooms into something far larger, resulting in an expansive outro driven by towering synths and powerful vocal performances, standing as one of the recordâs most dramatic moments, embracing scale while maintaining emotional intimacy.
Closing with âDreamcast,â Heddy turns her attention directly toward mental health via a song inspired by her experiences with OCD and health anxiety, examining cycles of panic, uncertainty and self-improvement. Bright instrumentation, colourful synths and infectious melodies create a buoyant backdrop for profoundly personal songwriting, offering a stunning and truly memorable finale to Heddy Edwards’ incredible debut EP.
