Greater Manchester-based trio Mercy Kelly have spent the last few years building a sound that’s captured the attention of fans all over the UK and beyond. Through emotionally charged songwriting and expansive alternative rock, the band have developed a sound where shimmering guitar textures meet bright melodies, balancing cinematic ambition with a Northern identity. It all started as an acoustic songwriting partnership but over time has gradually bloomed into a band that continues to develop its voice while remaining driven by the creative chemistry at its centre.
Formed during the winter of 2019, Mercy Kelly initially revolved around frontman Jack Marland and lead guitarist Adam Bridge, whose shared approach to songwriting mapped out the early vision of the endeavour. Drawing inspiration from Chameleons-esque guitar work while channelling the scale of stadium-sized hooks, the pair crafted a style that would continue to grow over the years. At the beginning of this year, drummer Liam Constantine joined the lineup, completing the transition into the classic three-piece that now carries the band’s next chapter forward.
The group’s first introduction arrived in 2021 with the debut single “Anymore” and from that point onwards, Mercy Kelly steadily expanded their catalogue through a succession of releases that showcased both emotional impact and musical ambition. Their songs became tinged by gothic textures, jangling guitars and thoughtful lyricism, combining enveloping arrangements with an intimate emotional heart.
Their combination of commanding performances and emotionally compelling songwriting continued to strengthen with every release, establishing Mercy Kelly as a band equally comfortable on intimate stages and larger festival bills including a slot at Kendal Calling. The momentum generated by that performance quickly translated into further festival invitations and major support opportunities.

At the same time, the band found themselves facing internal changes as varying levels of commitment among members prompted a reshaping of the lineup but through that period, however, one constant remained. The songwriting partnership between Jack Marland and Adam Bridge continued to provide the creative heartbeat of Mercy Kelly, while Liam Constantine’s arrival behind the drums helped inject a new energy. Now they crystallise that transition with the release of their brand new EP titled Summer of Silence. recorded between Liverpool’s Kempston Street Studios and Manchester’s Dusk til Dawn studios.
The EP revisits live favourites like “Breathe for Her” which opens the EP with an infectious blend of rustling drums and bright guitar leads before flowing with delicate vocal melodies and laid back rock groove. With an energising chorus brimming with singalong hooks and lively arrangement, it’s an epic showcase of the band’s pop-inflected songwriting and musicianship flair. “Love Song,” notable as the first piece written by the current three-piece lineup, symbolises the beginning of this new era with a breezy indie rock outing built with pattering drums, intricate guitar tones and impassioned vocal performance.
Another previous hit comes with “Speak Too Soon” which presents a stunning slice of anthemic pop rock packed full of shuffling percussion, jangling guitar elements and an anthemic chorus. The smooth ebb and flow between the tender verses and rousing choruses delivers a thoroughly captivating listening experience that’s memorable, highly affecting and truly impossible not to love.
Closing the EP with “Shard of Rain,” the soft plucks of clean guitar notes crafts an atmospheric scene as compelling vocal lines ring out above. Progressing with pulsing drums and airy instrumental textures, the song builds throughout, reaching a thrilling finale of punching drums, stacks of guitar layers and dancing leads, serving up an enthralling finale to Mercy Kelly’s sensational new EP. With Summer of Silence, Mercy Kelly captures both determination and ambition, presenting a band whose strongest work may still lie ahead.
