Grey & Purple Songbook is a project created by two brothers from Oslo, operating under the Grey & Purple Inc. label. Driven by the belief that songs can do more than entertain, in the less a year, the musical endeavour has been on a prolific creative spree of text-driven storytelling, combining meaningful themes with melodies designed to engage both emotionally and intellectually. The duo place story at the centre of everything they create, shaping each composition around the tale it wants to tell and that context has become vital to the way Grey & Purple Songbook makes music.
Their music forms at the crossroads where stories and melodies meet, where carefully constructed scenes are matched with arrangements designed to amplify every emotion, twist and lesson contained within the lyrics. Through that lens, they’ve delivered a catalogue that aims to strike a chord with both the heart and the mind, drawing listeners into worlds where storytelling and song are intrinsically linked.
Working under the banner of Grey & Purple Inc., the brothers have dedicated themselves to producing what they describe as harmonious and thought-provoking musical stories across a variety of genres. Their flexibility and creativity ensures that every story receives what they see as the right musical costume and in doing so, Grey & Purple Songbook has developed a style that feels focused on the timeless power of sonic storytelling. Having released an impressive amount of music over the last few months, their artistic mission is perfectly illustrated by their recent single titled “Once Upon a Time.”

The track serves as an incredible showcase of the project’s artistic vision, presenting how traditional tales can be transformed into engaging contemporary musical experiences. Taking cues from an ancient Norwegian folk story, the song takes listeners into a world shaped by kindness, magic and greed, bringing together folklore and modern songwriting into a funk-inflected pop jam packed full of catchy hooks and grooving rhythm. Thematically, what starts out as a story of opportunity gradually shifts into something darker when greed enters the equation through the farmer’s brother and as the tale plays out, avarice drives the story towards tragedy, resulting in consequences that echo far beyond the actions themselves.
Set up by warm vocal hums as soft percussive clicks and playful guitar flickers form an inviting intro which blooms with smooth vocal leads and the rustle of shuffling drums. The picture painting lyrics are delivered by soulful vocal performance while the bouncy patter of the beat and pulse of bass underpins an intricate arrangement, crafting an upbeat listening experience instilled with poignant lyrical writing.
Peppered with slick instrumental flourishes and cut with infectious melodies throughout, “Once Upon a Time” sees Grey & Purple Songbook serve up a superb musical moment that’s memorable and conceptually meaningful in equal measure. As they continue to share their musical output with exciting pace, Grey & Purple Songbook show no signs of slowing down on their must watch musical adventure and we can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store.
