Based in Los Angeles, Anna Thoresen is a singer-songwriter with a knack for balancing reflective songwriting and experimentation. Over the last four years, she’s been operating in the overlap between indie, alternative and dream pop, blending emotionally compelling songwriting with adventurous production. Her sound is based in guitar-driven arrangements before expanding to bring together classic influences and modern ideas, resulting in a sound that forms bridges between eras and an array of sonic styles.
The artists who’ve informed her musical identity reflect her diverse inspirations, with influence coming from the likes of Alanis Morissette, Joan Jett, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Stevie Nicks as well as The Police, Fleetwood Mac and contemporary artist Dijon. Anna stitches these threads into an entirely original musical fabric which gives rise to songs that carry the emotional context of classic rock while embracing bold, modern energy.
Working from her home studio in Los Angeles, she remains closely connected to every stage of her creative process; her music is built around candid storytelling, with each release offering another window into the emotional scenes that shape her songwriting. Alongside the music itself, she’s also crafted a strong visual identity through her ongoing collaboration with director Sebastian Johnson-Deal, whose short films expand the ideas found within her songs into cinematic experiences.
Her artistic journey officially began in 2022 with the release of her debut single, “i think this is love?” and momentum quickly followed with sophomore single “party girl’s lament” before the arrival of her three-track EP, i HTE u + two, the following year. Since then, she’s continued developing her musical voice through a series of studio releases, adding to a catalogue that consistently reflects an artist trading in emotional complexity and exploratory sound.

Now she returns with her first release of 2026, bringing us her new single titled “GROUNDHOG DAY,” composed and produced entirely within her Los Angeles home studio during an especially isolating period. The song examines recurring cycles of depression, loneliness and failed relationships, framed by unconventional chord progressions that mirror the confusion and emotional repetition at the heart of the song. Describing the track as her own “death march,” Anna channels feelings of repeated heartbreak and professional disappointment into a composition that distils the sensation of becoming trapped inside emotional patterns that seem impossible to escape.
Despite its profoundly personal origins, the song has grown beyond her own experience, with listeners connecting to its wider exploration of spiralling darkness and emotional exhaustion. Leaning into an art rock aesthetic, the track flows with the rustle of shuffling drums before Anna’s expressive voice glides in with stretched melodic leads carrying poignant lyrics to cast a mesmeric and subtly brooding soundscape. Developing with the soft strike of bright instrumental chimes and led by a captivating vocal performance that’s at once soulful and intense, the track progresses with with stacked voices, mellow groove and a, ever-present sense of melancholic emotion.
The visual companion to “GROUNDHOG DAY,” directed once again by Sebastian Johnson-Deal, takes the song’s emotional themes and transforms them into an ambitious visual world built around time portals and the tension between work and personal life. Bright colours, vivid imagery and edgy visual concepts stand in deliberate contrast to the song’s heavier tones, creating an arresting balance that strengthens the emotional impact. Away from the studio, Anna continues building momentum through live performance and upcoming appearances at Los Angeles venues Harvard and Stone on the 30th of June and The Viper Room on the 16th of July represent the next step in an artistic journey that continues to gather pace.
