San Francisco-based singer-songwriter Michelle Bond, better known as Michellar, has rapidly marked herself as an artist whose music is built on on honesty, atmosphere and personal storytelling. Based in the city’s indie folk community, her songs form where folk, pop and atmospheric country intersect, creating intimate soundscapes that transform individual experiences into something listeners can recognise within themselves. Every release brings audiences into moments of reflection shaped by empathy and emotional understanding, often brought to life through collaboration with other artists.
Inspired by the lyrical flair of writers such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, she employs a diaristic style of songwriting, allowing personal thoughts, complicated relationships and emotional contradictions to take shape with sincerity. Her artistic expression extends well beyond music alone and in 2023, Michellar’s work was selected for the de Young Museum’s Open Call Exhibition, highlighting a creative practice that pairs visual art and songwriting. That visual angle quietly feeds into her music, where atmosphere often becomes just as significant as melody.
Scenes rise with painterly detail, allowing listeners to experience songs not simply as stories but as environments full of texture, colour and emotional movement. Despite only beginning to release music in recent years, Michellar has already shown extraordinary creative momentum; with more than 140 original songs to her name, her catalogue reflects an artist driven not by productivity for its own sake, but by a need to create. Along the way, collaborations with musicians including Helen Walford, Gracie Lou, Frankie El and Rad Datsun have expanded her musical range, ultimately leading to the release of her debut full-length album, Reverie… From then till now.

Following the reflective qualities of her recent single “Ladder to Infinity,” Michellar now ventures into entirely new sonic areas with hr brand new single titled “Can’t Get You Out of my Mind.” While her gift for emotional honesty remains fully on display, the new single introduces a psychedelic dimension that expands her artistic world and to bring that vision to life, Michellar partnered with Nashville-based producer Michael Beckheart, whose enthusiasm for psychedelic music aligned with her dveloping creative direction. Together, they forged a sound that complements Michellar’s artistic identity while introducing new textures inspired by vintage psychedelic influences.
The song arose from an intensely personal desire to give voice to thoughts that had previously remained internal and by framing themes of obsession and the overwhelming persistence of certain emotions, “Can’t Get You Out of my Mind” explores the experience of confronting thoughts that refuse to disappear. Set up by the soft plucks of acoustic guitar as quiet synth textures bubble in the background, Michellar’s delicate vocals float above to spin picture painting lyrics via gentle melodies. Building with fluttering leads, the track glides with shifting rhythms and pulsing basslines, forming a stripped back, psych folk soundscape that’s transportive and highly memorable from start to finish.
Dashed with hazy lead guitar flickers and sweeping vocalisations, the finale lands with stabbing instrumental energy as lively, overlapping vocal layers cast an energising conclusion to Michellar’s superb new single. “Can’t Get You Out of my Mind” also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Michellar, serving as the first taste of an upcoming psychedelic album planned to be released in Spring next year.
