Growing up in the Devon countryside, music was stitched into everyday life for singer-songwriter Bear Bolton. Surrounded by family members who sang, played instruments and embraced harmony, she developed a connection to songwriting long before she considered releasing music herself. Her father introduced her to the importance of vocal harmony, while her stepfather taught her guitar, leading to a creative path that would quietly simmer over the years.
A performance of Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” at the age of nine proved to be a defining moment, igniting a passion for performing that would remain with her even as life took her in different directions. Classical training during her teenage years expanded her musical vocabulary, while a growing love of country songwriting encouraged her to begin putting her own experiences into words. Over time, she developed a style that follows the emotional needs of each song through a blend of blues, reggae, folk storytelling, rock energy and classical touches.
Although songwriting remained a constant throughout her life, confidence took much longer to arrive and after building a successful professional career while continuing to write privately, she eventually reached a point where she was ready to embrace the identity she had spent years growing towards. Released to coincide with her milestone 40th birthday, her debut full-length record titled Time To Revive represents that transformation.
Built from years of personal reflection and shaped by experiences that range from love and motherhood to heartbreak, mental health and reinvention, the record arrives as the moment she finally allows the world to hear her creative expression. Penned over the course of three years, the album reflects the many chapters that have shaped Bear’s life; marriage, military life, motherhood, separation, mental health struggles, self-discovery and recovery all become part of an interconnected story, presenting personal experiences with openness while allowing listeners to find echoes of their own stories within the songs.

Throughout the album, she avoids disguising the learning curve involved in producing and releasing music during one of the most turbulent periods of her life, with the album becoming a document not just of emotional growth, but of artistic development too, reflecting an artist learning and adapting in real time. Family remains deeply embedded throughout the project and contributions from her stepbrother and nephew enrich the musical arrangements, while photography and videography created by her sister highlight the deeply personal nature of the release.
“Tequila Talkin'” opens the record with a relaxed bluesy outing inspired by friendship, margaritas and the conversations that arise when life slows down. “Sunday Blues” brings playful humour through a classic 12-bar blues approach, while “Me and My Mind” explores fantasy, attraction and the powerful divide between imagination and reality. Tracks like “This Love” offer a heartfelt celebration of peaceful, lasting relationships after originally being written as a wedding gift while “Last Night” captures the dreamy glow of unforgettable memories through reggae-infused rhythms.
Framed in an intimate piano-driven setting, “Faded Pictures” reflects on leaving a marital home and learning to cherish memories without remaining trapped inside them. Among the album’s most delicate moments is “Sentivo solo la pioggia,” performed in Italian and shaped by classical influences. Exploring postnatal depression with compelling honesty, it reveals another dimension of Bear’s songwriting, confronting profoundly personal emotions with grace and sensitivity.
“Mrs Robinson” continues the journey of rediscovery, recounting how a brief encounter unexpectedly reignited confidence and self-worth before the title track, “Time To Revive,” closes the record with an uplifting rock anthem encouraging women to reclaim themselves after years of putting others first. With her debut album, Bear Bolton shows that captivating songwriting seldom comes from chasing perfection. It’s instead forged via candid songwriting, determination and the courage to share difficult truths, offering the reassurance that even life’s most difficult chapters can become the beginning of something entirely new.
