Bubblegum Cistern arrives from Knoxville, Tennessee as a new musical project that grew out of genuine friendship, bringing together two lifelong friends whose musical partnership has developed organically over years of shared ideas, patience and mutual trust. The duo have allowed their songs to form gradually over time, creating music that feels unforced, playful and based in the simple enjoyment of making something together.
The project unites Eddie Stephenson and John Seeber, friends since the third grade whose lives today see them both balance full-time jobs alongside family life, each raising two children while continuing to foster a creative partnership that’s flourished in the background. That shared understanding of life’s responsibilities has become an unexpected strength, giving Bubblegum Cistern a sense of perspective that runs through everything they create.
Long before Bubblegum Cistern became an official project, the pair had already established a creative rhythm; for at least six years they exchanged demos, developing ideas from a distance and gradually building a catalogue of songs without placing pressure on where they might eventually lead. Those recordings became a creative conversation stretching across years, with each new demo adding another piece to a musical puzzle they were mapping out together.
Eventually, that steady exchange reached a natural conclusion and in January of last year, the duo decided the time had finally arrived to transform those accumulated ideas into something larger, setting themselves to recording a complete album. The resulting work is their debut full-length release titled SYZYGY, a nine-track outing that reflects both the diversity of their influences and the easy chemistry developed over decades of friendship.

Entirely self-produced, the album embraces variety and across its tracks, Bubblegum Cistern move between contrasting moods, allowing each song to develop its own personality while maintaining a recognisable identity throughout the record. Some moments invite reflection, others lean into joyful unpredictability, giving the album a sense of spontaneity that keeps listeners engaged from beginning to end. “Low Gravity” opens the LP with the soft shimmer of airy instrumental tones and the metallic taps of percussive shots, slipping into a laid back groove that rolls with bouncy guitar flickers and expressive vocals, forming a slick art rock jam brimming with slick rhythm and memorable songwriting.
“Orbiting” glides with the punch of drums and intricate guitar layers, casting an immersive atmosphere capped by smooth vocal performance to deliver a transportive rock soundscape that flows through moments of delicate melodic bliss and passages of subtle intensity. “Tether” drifts with pulsing instrumental elements as the loose rustle of rhythm brings the arrangement into a hypnotic groove as soulful vocals drift above splashing drums and shifting textures, putting the band’s knack for catchy songwriting and experimental arrangements on full display.
Tracks like “Lunar Bound” serves up rolling drum patterns and impassioned vocal performance wrapped in woozy instrumental tones, taking listeners on a spacey sonic voyage stitched with alluring melodic threads. “From Over the Sunrise” introduces unexpected salsa-inspired rhythms before launching into a heavy chorus, creating an engaging collision of styles that feels at once surprising and completely natural, showcasing the pair’s ability to bring together seemingly contrasting styles in spectacular fashion.
“Re/Entry” channels the grand sense of celebration associated with classic 80s stadium pop, building infectious momentum before breaking apart for an unexpected instrumental detour. The song closes with Eddie’s playful ukulele work, ending the track with a flourish that captures the project’s free-spirited personality. Closing the record with “High Gravity,” the mellow march of soft instrumental taps meets the twang of guitar chords, snap of drums and compelling vocal leads to deliver a stunning finale to the band’s sensational debut album. With their debut release, Bubblegum Cistern make an exciting entrance as a fiercely original band finally presenting a shared musical vision that’s been years in the making and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store next.
