Perth-based artists Goon and Daunt have spent years developing their individual creative identities, but their first full-length collaboration, COLD FRONT, marks the moment where those worlds fully collide. Bringing together reflective hip hop, R&B emotion and experimental electronic production, the duo have created an 18-track concept album that explores heartbreak, toxic relationships and self-sabotage through a profoundly personal lens. Built on the chemistry formed through years of writing and creating together, COLD FRONT is a record that presents a soundtrack to difficult moments, personal contemplation and eventual growth.
The project represents a significant momnt for both artists, arriving after two years spent building their own South Perth studio, Hive6. Hive6 became the setting for an album created entirely on their own terms and having collaborated regularly throughout their careers, Goon and Daunt used this environment to develop a shared creative language, allowing their contrasting approaches to coalesce into something entirely their own.
At the centre of COLD FRONT is the meeting point between Goon’s emotionally compelling songwriting and Daunt’s genre-breaking production. Known for his intricate lyricism and memorable hooks, Goon brings some of his most personal material to the release, exploring the aftermath of difficult experiences with a level of honesty that gives the album its emotional impact. His writing captures moments of pain, frustration and self-reflection, turning personal struggles into stories that feel widely relatable.
Daunt’s production provides the perfect counterpart, moving between stripped-back house influences, atmospheric electronic textures and bass-driven hip hop. It’s a sound that allows tracks to shift from calm, understated grooves into moments of chaotic energy, creating a constantly developing landscape that mirrors the emotional journey at the heart of the record. Split into two distinct halves, COLD FRONT follows a story arc that begins in the aftermath of pain before gradually moving towards acceptance and determination.

The opening chapters confront heartbreak, addiction and the consequences of past decisions, capturing the uncertainty and emotional turbulence that often follows personal collapse. As the album progresses, the focus begins to shift, exploring the possibility of healing, moving forward and finding strength after difficult experiences. The winter-inspired concept behind the album adds another elements to its atmosphere; designed to be experienced during the colder months, COLD FRONT carries a sense of late-night reflection and subtle intensity. Whether heard beside a fire, during a solitary drive with the heater running or through a powerful live sound system, the album creates a world where isolation and connection delicately overlap.
The project also highlights the wider Perth music community through guest appearances from Wesley Black, Nxlly, Lil Ducky and Lozza. While these collaborations expand the album’s scope, the focus remains firmly tethered to the creative partnership between Goon and Daunt. The record also marks a new chapter for Daunt, who steps into the spotlight as a vocalist for the first time, contributing performances on tracks like “Yearning” and “Address.”
One of the album’s highlights arrives with “CLOSURE (feat. Nxlly),” a track that signals a progression towards a more hopeful emotional space. While still based in the pain of a relationship ending, the song explores the possibility of moving beyond resentment and finding acceptance. Driven by Daunt’s slick production style and a hook from Nxlly, who represents the voice of an ex struggling to let go, the track captures the complicated emotions that come with finally reaching the end of something once important.
Every aspect of COLD FRONT was handled independently, with Daunt producing every track before recording, mixing and mastering the album at Hive6. Ultimately, COLD FRONT lands an album about transformation and through the combination of Goon’s thoughtful lyricism and Daunt’s adventurous production, the duo have created a record that proves even the coldest seasons can spark something powerful. It’s an emphatic collaborative statement from two artists who understand that sometimes the most honest stories come from the moments when everything feels frozen.
