Manchester-based singer-songwriter Jay Hofman has built a career around movement, transformation and the freedom to explore every corner of his creativity. Since landing on independent platforms in 2011, Jay has developed a unique musical identity that blends reflective storytelling with melodic experimentation, balancing moments of humour and emotional honesty in equal measure. Drawing inspiration from artists including Lana Del Rey, Muse, t.A.T.u., Edyta Gorniak, Sergey Lazarev, Finneas and Bad Bunny, his work reflects a wide-ranging appreciation for music that’s at once personal and unafraid to cross boundaries.
Originally based in London before later making Manchester his home, his artistic journey has been defined by constant reinvention. His debut album Avant Garde arrived in 2012, introducing an artist able to explore new creative directions and over the years that followed, he continued to expand his catalogue with releases including the Un-Lush EP in 2014, The Modern Vintage in 2015, Paradise Cove in 2017, Spirits in 2018 and Delekta in 2020. 2024’s Commentarium de Paradiso highlighted Jay’s versatility as both a songwriter and performer, featuring lyrics in English, Polish and Russian while embracing a multicultural approach to expression.
Throughout his catalogue, Jay has created music that reflects personal discovery, freedom and the search for meaning and that same sense of exploration extends into his live performances. A compelling performer, he’s taken his music across the United Kingdom, United States, Poland, Italy, Spain and Germany, incorporating visual storytelling and theatrical elements into his shows. His performances reflect the same ambition found within his recordings, creating experiences that go beyond the traditional singer-songwriter format and place equal importance on atmosphere, emotion and connection.

Now,Jay Hofman enters another chapter with “Salida”, the lead single from his forthcoming album Magnum Opus. Blending pop, alternative and Latino pop influences, the track captures the warmth and energy of Spanish summers while delivering a message centred on change, acceptance and personal growth. The title itself, translating from Spanish as “exit”, becomes the context of the song’s central idea, understanding when something has reached its natural conclusion and having the courage to move forward. Inspired by holidays spent in Murcia, Spain, “Salida” carries the feeling of a place that left a lasting impression on Jay.
A spoken bridge performed in Spanish reflects the environment and experiences that helped shape the track which thematically presents escape as an act of strength by recognising when a relationship, job, friendship, home or location has fulfilled its purpose and embracing the opportunity for something new. The track ultimately explores a question Jay has often encountered throughout his life: why does he always seem to run away? Interestingly, the lyrics arrived almost instantly, forming within just a few minutes from an idea that had been developing in his mind. That spontaneous creative moment is reflected in the song’s uplifting energy, where thoughtful themes are framed in a colourful arrangement stitched with infectious melodic threads.
Co-produced with Chris Hughes of Oscillate Recordings in Cheshire, who also worked on previous singles “Good Kind (To Me)” and “I Can’t Sing,” “Salida” combines slick production with the emotional impact that’s become a vital pillar of Jay’s output. As he continues towards the release of Magnum Opus, Jay Hofman’s latest single serves up a celebration of new beginnings, a reminder that sometimes the most important step forward is knowing when it is time to leave something behind. Through his blend of cultural influences, ambitious songwriting and personal storytelling, Jay Hofman continues to create music that feels both original and truly enjoyable.
