Kat Greta is a Melbourne-based indie pop artist and multi-instrumentalist who writes songs that find moments of brightness inside darker experiences and transforms personal emotions into engaging pop music. Her songwriting regularly explores grief, mental health and determination, yet it does so through melodies that remain vibrant and inviting rather than weighed down by their subject matter. Light from darkness both find space in her sound, existing together through songs that acknowledge difficult emotions while continuing to move forward.
Behind that natural emotional fluency lies years of musical development; classically trained from an early age, Kat studied piano, percussion, violin, music theory and composition before performing extensively in choirs and orchestras throughout her early years. She later continued studying piano and percussion at university, developing a skillset that now supports her unique approach to songwriting, production and performance.
As a drummer and multi-instrumentalist, Kat has become an active figure within Melbourne’s live music community, bringing a rhythmic confidence and physical energy to her performances. From behind a drum kit to leading from the front, her musical background continues to shape the character of her work. With an expanding catalogue of releases and a reputation for emotionally compelling live shows, Kat has has been making a worthwhile impression in Australia’s indie pop landscape. Now she returns with “Audacity,” a brand new single that arrives after her Rhythm & Reverie EP which landed in November.

The single was co-produced alongside Melbourne producer Seetali Mack, a collaboration that gave Kat the space to further explore the emotional contradictions at the heart of the song. “Audacity” channels a brighter, more energetic pop sound where colourful electronic textures, driving percussion and confident melodies combine to create a track filled with movement and energy, yet beneath that upbeat surface sits something considerably heavier. Penned following a period of immense personal loss, the single explores the emotional disorientation that grief can create, emaximing the strange contradiction of watching everyday life continue unchanged while your own world has fundamentally shifted.
Jumping straight in with the patter of punchy percussion, Kat’s smooth vocals enter above soft guitar notes to form an instantly catchy indie pop scene. Flowing with fluttering vocal leads, the chorus forms with pulsing rhythms, infectious hooks and layers of driving instrumentation, delivering a burst of energy that carries throughout the song. Following the final chorus, the song surges with gritty instrumentation and overlapping vocal layers to deliver an epic finale to close the song in truly memorable fashion.
The context of emotional disconnect is echoed visually in the accompanying music video, directed by Francis Biay. Set against the fast-moving lights of Melbourne’s inner CBD, the video surrounds Kat with constant motion while she remains strikingly still in the foreground. The contrast creates a visual representation of the song’s central theme, reflecting the sensation of standing emotionally frozen while everything else continues rushing ahead. With “Audacity,” Kat Greta continues to strengthen her position as one of Australia’s most emotionally compelling indie pop voices and we can’t wait to see what she’s got in store next.
