While still in the earliest chapter of their journey, West Yorkshire outfit Lomens have already been making a significant impact in the UK music sphere. Formed in August 2024, the alternative rock band has rapidly secured a reputation for pairing explosive sonic intensity with melodic songwriting, creating music that balances powerful hooks with rhythmic complexity and reflective lyricism. Drawing on personal struggles and the harsher realities of life, their songs face difficult emotions head on and transform them into gripping musical moments.
The sound of Lomens shifts between moments of pure impact and quieter passages while stacking rhythmic textures that give every track an enthralling sense of movement. Through both volume and atmosphere, their arrangements allow emotional context and musical ambition to collide in spectacular fashion. That style was mapped out almost immediately after the project formed; closing out 2024, Lomens introduced themselves with the debut singles “Twisted Alive” and “The Art of Acceptance,” two releases that provided the first showcase of a band with a knack for exploring emotionally demanding themes.
The momentum continued throughout last year as Lomens expanded both their catalogue and their live presence. Alongside a trio of further studio releases that attracted enthusiastic reviews from a range of media outlets, the band continued winning over fans from the stage. Headline appearances at venues including Amped in Huddersfield, Oporto in Leeds and The Picturedrome in Holmfirth, combined with numerous support slots, introduced growing audiences to a live performance that have marked the band as a must see act.
Word of those performances has spread quickly as Lomens earned praise for immersive shows driven by an infectious energy that reflects the band’s obvious passion for performing. Now, the band delivers their most ambitious studio release thus far with their brand new debut EP titled Surely Not?, a six-track work that captures both the confidence they’ve already developed and the energy driving everything they do.

The EP explores themes that are intensely personal from loss and addiction to betrayal, channelling experiences into music that constantly shifts between soaring anthemic moments and quieter sections of melancholy. Kicked off with “Messroom,” the murky buzz of bass synth and shuffle of drums is met by commanding vocals that flicker between smooth melodies and airy falsetto as the atmosphere develops with punching percussion and crunchy guitars, resulting in an epic alternative rock anthem packed full of moody energy and belted vocal hooks.
“Dregs & Daggers” crashes into view with twanging guitar chords and rhythmic stabs before flowing with rustling percussion and intimate vocal layers, casting a brooding soundscape that surges with soaring vocals and charging instrumentation to serve up an engrossing listening experience cut with slick riffs and impassioned vocal performance. “It Feel Personal” launches straight into a powerful alternative rock scene where driving guitars and rolling drums underpin riveting vocals to take listeners on a raucous rock rollercoaster that maintains its energy throughout.
“2232” slows things down with delicate acoustic guitar tones and hushed vocals, crafting a tender moment on the EP that frames the band’s highly affective songwriting in a stripped back setting. “Alveoli” arrives with the soft pulse of synth as the plucks of guitar notes and punch of drum shots crafts an immersive soundscape of hazy instrumental music that’s transportive, mesmeric and spellbinding all at once.
Closing track “Alveolar” carries that aesthetic over, with floating vocals and developing energy as the patter of drums and smokey textures of guitar swirl around the lead voice. Building with thrilling energy and biting guitar tones, it’s a stunning finale to the band’s sensational debut EP which puts the band’s musicianship panache on full display. To celebrate the release, Lomens will take the new material to the stage with an official EP launch show at the Key Club in Leeds on the 17th of July, joined by special guests Wolforna and Vazon. For a band that’s only existed since 2024, Lomens have already demonstrated astonishing focus and with their debut EP, they firmly stake their claim as ones of the most exciting alternative rock acts on the rise in the UK.
