Hailing from Angers in France, OpusKan is a new project built on the idea that music never truly disappears and that songs can wait patiently for the right moment to be rediscovered, reshaped and finally heard in the form they were always meant to take. Blending alternative rock, shoegaze, noise rock and indie pop into a sound that feels at once nostalgic and forward-looking, OpusKan brings together decades of songwriting with modern production techniques, creating a musical output driven by both memory and reinvention.
Although the project officially began only last year, its origins stretch back much further; for more than three decades, its creator quietly amassed a vast archive of original compositions, preserving ideas across cassette tapes, MiniDiscs, ZIP drives, CDs and countless other recording formats. Now allowing those songs to remain forgotten relics of the past, OpusKan has embarked on the ambitious task of revisiting them, uncovering the pieces that still carry emotional impact and giving them a second life.
Originally penned with little more than guitar and vocals, these songs are now being rebuilt using AI-assisted orchestration, allowing arrangements to finally match the sonic ambition that first inspired them. The technology isn’t used to replace creativity but to realise long-held musical visions, transforming skeletal demos into full recordings while preserving the emotional context that’s survived across the years.
Taking cues from acts like Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins and Blonde Redhead, OpusKan creates music that channels intensity while retaining thoughtful songwriting. Shoegaze atmospheres, punk energy and melodic pop appeal all collide in his sound, producing tracks that feel equally familiar and thoroughly original. Alongside rebuilding the instrumentation, OpusKan is also updating the lyrics, approaching each song through the perspective of real life experience. Listening back to these melodies becomes a journey through different chapters of life, with every composition acting as a reminder of a particular moment, emotion or memory.

First unveiling the OpusKan project in May this year with the debut single “Dive Deep,” he’s been quick to follow up with a string of tracks in the build up to his most ambitious project thus far, his debut full-length record titled rendez-Vous. The record represents the result of years of songwriting, careful reflection and creative reconstruction, bringing together material that’s travelled across decades before finally reaching its intended destination.
The riff-driven rock jam “Invitation” offers a concise opener where grooving guitars, punchy drums and moody vocals combine to deliver a burst of gripping rock energy, brimming with slick guitar work and compelling split vocals. “Ember of Us” slows things down with the laid back shuffle of drums and soft twang of guitar notes, flowing with mellow vocal performance to craft a smooth alternative rock outing that rises with belted vocals and surging instrumentation. “Harbor Ghost” casts an immersive atmosphere where the rustle of shuffling drums and intricate guitars build with splashing cymbals to set up an epic rock anthem.
The debut single “Dive Deep” glides with the breezy flicker of guitar before slipping into a bouncy groove of snapping drums and pulsing bass capped by expressive vocal leads to serve up an incredible indie rock experience. Other highlights on the record include songs like “The Wrong Day” where soulful vocals float above restrained guitar backing and pattering percussion, progressing with marching rhythm and bright guitar layers to form an engrossing musical voyage full of engaging ebb and flow. “Basement” leans into OpusKan’s energetic style to deliver an enthralling pop-tinged rock song cut with infectious melodic hooks and exhilarating arrangement.
“Hang On” lands with melancholic guitar chords and crisp percussion as emotive vocals rise and fall above to deliver an impassioned alternative rock scene packed full of memorable songwriting and riveting instrumentation. Closing the album with “Vespers,” OpusKan presents a woozy shoegaze finale that concluds the record with stacks of fuzzy textures and enveloping aesthetic instilled with delicate melodies. With rendez-Vous, OpusKan explores the overlap between memory and innovation, where decades of songwriting collide with modern experimentation to produce something that feels timeless truly cutting edge.
